Weekly Workout/Training in Review 3/14-3/20

March 23, 2016

This past week was spent recovering from my chest cold (the one that keeps you up all night). The plus side – I think I got some major ab work from the coughing (I kid I kid).  The negative side – zero running this week, I even got winded from walking! The highlight of the week was celebrating my birthday with my family and Cliff. Thank you for all your messages and texts 🙂

Thankfully I am feeling much better and will resume running this week.  I am joining Holly from HoHo Runs and Tricia from MissSippiPiddlin for this week’s Weekly Wrap.

Monday 3/14 – Rest Day

Went to work and went home.

Tuesday 3/15 – Rest Day

Went to work and went home.  Rescheduled dinner plans with my friends Jenn, Brett and Cliff.

Wednesday 3/16 – Rest Day

Went to work and went home.

Thursday 3/17 – Rest Day

Can you guess?

Friday 3/18 – 60 minutes barre

I had visions of running 3.3 miles (I bet you can guess my age) on my birthday.  I had a route picked out (Hains Point) and was crossing my fingers that some of the cherry blossoms were blooming.  Since I was still recovering, I nixed that plan and attended a (free) Barre3 class – it felt great to get a workout in.

I took off from work and spent the day running errands, doing laundry and all that jazz.   I met Cliff for dinner after he got off from work.  We had calamari to start – they mixed it with some asian chili sauce, which was really good.

Shared a steak, asparagus and mashed potatoes.

Ended the night with a yummy cheesecake! Thanks for a wonderful birthday dinner, Cliff!

Saturday 3/19 – 45 minutes cycling + 60 minutes reformer pilates

I wanted to get my legs moving so I signed up for a FlyWheel class.  My plan was to take it nice and easy and not push it too hard.  I followed my plan and was pleasantly surprised I ended the class with a total power of 236, my second highest score ever.

Double workout day! After Flywheel, I headed to Toolbox Pilates Art Studio for a Beginning Reformer Pilates Class.  Part art studio, part Pilates studio the space is beautiful.

This was my first time taking a reformer class. I will probably write a post after I take a few more classes.  I was a bit nervous, but was happy to see a familiar face.  The instructor was Cathy, who I met at a Sweat Pink/Athleta event Mar organized last year.

Overall I enjoyed this class and I got some much needed stretching.  I am signed up for another class next week.

Later in the morning we headed across the river to watch London Has Fallen – it was entertaining and I thought it was better than Olympus Has Fallen (not to be confused with White House Down).  I also like AMC Courthouse – they have the comfy recliner chairs.

Sunday 3/20 – 60 minutes barre

Yup…on a roll…another Barre3 class.  Before/after the class I was tracking my friends running Shamrock and NYC. Shout out to Courtney and Nan for their huge PRs in the half and full respectively.

Later in the morning, Cliff and I met my family for a birthday brunch in Bethesda (alliteration for the win).  We ate at Redwood Restaurant and Bar and it was delicious. I’ve eaten dinner there a couple of times, but never for brunch.

I had their chicken and biscuits…mmmm.  The biscuit was huge!

The remainder of the day was spent relaxing and watching Spy featuring Melissa McCarthy. It was funny! If you have HBO on Demand, it is on there now.

Weekly Total: 0 miles | 0 Runs

Year to Date: 176.76 miles | 35 Runs

Have you watched any new movies lately?

Have you ever tried Reformer Pilates?

    1. We watched Spy! It was pretty funny. Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a couple of great celebrations. Maybe you can still do your b-day run. Just figure out the additional distance for that day. I hope you are feeling better now. Coughing is intense ab work! Thanks for linking with us Jennifer.

Thanks Holly! Spy was much funnier than I thought it would be 🙂 Melissa McCarthy is great.

Haha thanks! I need to step up taking pics of my home cooking 🙂

The small beginners class definitely helped – reformer always seemed intimidating. Thank you Lacey!

    1. It sucks you were sick on your birthday week 🙁 I’m glad you got in a good birthday dinner and brunch to celebrate though! Both look delicious. I’ve never tried a Pilates reformer class, just Pilates mat classes. I look forward to the review 🙂

Yeah, I’m glad the worst of it was in the beginning of the week vs. the end. I was always intimidated by teh reformers class, but it helped the beginners class was small!

    1. I did a few pilates classes years ago, but never reformer… just basic, I guess. I’m glad you are finally recovering from the chest cold- good call not to run with that and it looks like you got some good class workouts in, at least. Hooray for celebrating your birthday!!

Thanks, Amy! Glad I didn’t run with the cold either. I’ve been reading some people have and it just prolonged the illness.

    1. I’m sorry you was dealing with sickness but it does look like you had a great birthday right! Wow at the variety of workout, I just love you have so many different places to go. I have never heard of a flywheel class what is it? Thanks for linking up with us Jenny!! 🙂

FlyWheel is a cycling class – a competitor to SoulCycle. I like FlyWheel because they post metrics to your account 🙂 Thanks, Tricia!

    1. Happy belated birthday! I’m impressed with all of the classes you went to this week. I never go to classes. There’s a cycle place near my house that I want to check out, but I keep chickening out. I just need to get over it and go. I haven’t seen any movies since The Revenant, so it’s been a little while… I know I’ll see the new Captain America in May, but not sure about anything before that. Have a good week!

Thank you! I had no idea there was a new Captain America. Hope you had a good week as well.

    1. I saw Zootopia two weekends ago at a theater that with through renovations, and it was my first time there since they finished. It’s quite an upgrade, and really close to my apartment. I want to see Greek Wedding 2 and hope it’s showing there.

Zootopia looks cute! I just re-watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding on HBO – loved that movie (and soundtrack).

I really enjoyed the class. It was small and the instructor moved along at a nice pace. I actually enjoyed it more than a restorative yoga class (this particular session we focused on stretching).

    1. The food on your blog/instagram always makes me drool. I want to hang out with you every weekend and just have you take me around to your favorite restaurants! hahaha

Sorry that you dealt with the lingering effects of your cold for so long but it looks like you’re on a roll now! Congrats on a such a great performance at spin!

Feeling much better now, thanks! When you (eventually) come to DC – can pick out my favorite places to show you!
