Throwback Thursday – Old Race Photos

June 25, 2015

Every few days or so I get an email from our lovely friends at MarathonFoto (and I get quite a few reminders since I run ALL the races haha).  I’ve been lazy about ordering my New York City Marathon photos (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) and decided it was time to look through the proofs again (confession: I’ve never ordered from them before).  I noticed there was a reference to their MarathonFotoยฎ Rewards Club while I was on their website (FAQ here). It was free, so I signed up and ended up with a nice surprise!  MarathonFoto aggregated all the race proofs (organized by race) that I’ve even participated in (in which they were the official photographer).  I thought it would be fun to share some of my race photos pre Run Jenny Run.

All smiles (ok…maybe they were pretend smiles) with my friend Jenn at the 2007 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler.  Back then the course finished in West Potomac Park and there were no medals.

Here is proof I do have ugly photos ๐Ÿ™‚ An un-happy Jennifer at the 2010 Baltimore Half Marathon.  I think this at the Lake Montebello (beautiful by the way) portion of the course.

Remember when the Samsung Galaxy was small? Undertrained at the 2012 Miami Half Marathon. Perhaps third times a charm come January 2016!

I’ll definitely share more photos in the future.  It was interesting to see my running apparel change over the years (my shoes remained the same).

Have you looked at old race photos recently?

Have you purchased official race photos before?

    1. I love flipping through my old race photos on MarathonFoto and the way they group them all together is really nice.

I have only purchased one race photo so far and it was from my very first half marathon. I want to buy one of the pictures from the Miami Half since it was my PR race but I’m not sure which one to get. The prices are too high to buy more than one of them! haha

Agreed! I was hoping to limit NYC to one..but there are a couple I like and then at that price point the bundle is the best option (done on purpose….grrr). I am so indecisive…maybe I should put it up to a vote ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I have only ever purchased one race photo, and it was from my second half marathon. I have it up with all my running medals and awards and it was a great picture which is hard for me to take. The same photographer shoots almost all our local races, and since both of us are on a team for our local running store, we are allowed free photos (it is a perk of being on that team along with a discount to the store). I love how this company aggregated all your photos from so many YEARS though! That’s gotta be fun to look back :).

Free photos are so nice! Once I decide on a pic (and also want to buy one from my first marathon) I would like to put it up with my medals as well (maybe shadow box..not sure). It was definitely a fun blast from the past.

    1. The only race pictures I have actually purchased were the ones from the Great Wall marathon last month. I wish they weren’t all so overpriced. Even buying the Great Wall ones was a little stab to my heart (wallet).

That is a perfect analogy! I’ve been waiting for a coupon code, but haven’t lucked out yet (I suppose with NYC they don’t need coupon codes to incentivize people to order).

    1. What a fun post!!! Love it!! I’ve only ever purchased real race photos for last year’s MCM, since it was my first full marathon. I sucked it up and paid full price for about 5 of them. But I felt like in that situation, it was ok! I will say, however, that the pics my cheerleaders took along the course were MUCH better images than the ones MarathonFoto grabbed. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s true! My favorite NY ones are from my friends/bf. I still have not ordered my first marathon (2007) photo yet…Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

Love it! You and Abby have those nice Landing 5K Series photos – love when races provide free ones.

It was a nice trip down memory lane haha. Your collection will grow – this time next year you’ll have some giggles/smiles .

    1. Funny! I actually just received one of those reminder emails from MarathonFoto. I’ve bought a few official race pics – usually in magnet form if it’s offered so I can put it on my fridge. Most of my pics are too scary to consider buying though ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh I had no idea there were magnets. Most are on the scary side as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ More to come in another post haha

It is very convenient. Hoping to make a purchase decision this weekend… ah so pricy. I suppose out of the X races I’ve run…. 1 purchase is okayyy ahah ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. It is fun looking at old race photos! I’ve only purchased photos once and that was when I did the Seattle Half with soon to be Hubby and he helped me break 2 hours. ๐Ÿ™‚
