Chicago Marathon – Numbers and Lessons Learned

The Chicago Marathon (Part 1, Part 2) was three months ago - this quarter flew by! The weeks leading up to the marathon I dedicated posts to race related topics (Motivation,Logistics, Packing, Outfits).  I thought it would be appropriate to wrap up all things Chicago with a look at the numbers and lessons learned.  Lessons Learned This year I logged more miles training for Chicago vs. NYC, however, they were not all quality miles. The intervals, tempos, hill work - all those other runs that make…

2015 Chicago Marathon Race Recap Part 2

Welcome to the 2015 Chicago Marathon Race Recap Part 2....yes the part with the actual race! Catching up? 2015 Chicago Marathon Race Recap Part 1 Beep! Beep! Beep! My alarm was set for 4:30AM so I would have time to eat, drink water, use the potty (multiple times), and change before I would meet Kristina at her hotel.  I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and drank two bottles of water - the forecast was calling for 70-80F so…

2015 Chicago Marathon Race Recap Part 1

I cannot believe Chicago was almost 4 weeks ago – it feels much longer than that.  This recap will be one of my lengthier ones and will be broken up into two parts (I know my 2014 NYC Marathon recap was longggg with three posts hehe).  Again, thank you all for all your support the past 5-6 months! Okay...onto the recap! WARNING: PICTURE HEAVY.  Image: Chicago Marathon Speaking of NYC, let’s rewind a little bit.  Prior to the 2014 NYC…

Chicago Marathon Countdown – Race Day Outfit

Woah Nelly....4 more days until Chicago! Speaking of Nelly...Chicago will be "Hot in Herre". Last week the forecast called for a high of 63F, partly cloud with a 10% chance of rain.  Today the forecast for Sunday is a high of 70F, mostly sunny and 0% chance of rain. So if you are 7-14 days out from your marathon and the weather is A,B,C...it can very well change to X,Y,Z (for the good or the bad depending on your outlook). …

Chicago Marathon Countdown – Packing List

Wednesdays are pretty nice - they signal the middle of the work week and it is a relatively calmer day for me (knock on wood).  Wednesday also means another Chicago Marathon Countdown post! Today I am sharing my marathon packing list: If there is anything missing from my list feel free to comment or leave your link below.  My packing list has been updated since last year. You may notice I have poncho, zip lock bags, and Aquaphor on my…

Chicago Marathon Training Week 17 – 9/21-9/27

Hello Monday! As most of you are aware, DC welcomed Pope Francis last week.  It was so funny to see downtown DC so empty and quiet.  Because I live close to work, I still went into the office Tuesday-Thursday (most people were able to telework).  I heard sirens throughout the day (which is not an unusual occurrence with the White House close by) and saw excited parade goers walking towards the mall.  Vendors were even selling pope stuffed dolls...not sure…

Chicago Marathon Countdown – Logistics

Ummm...we are under the 20 day mark people....only 17 days until October 11th.  Thanks for all your words of encouragement last week!  Today I will be sharing some of the logistics that are finalized for marathon weekend.  Unlike the New York City Marathon, I did not have to worry about baggage or ferry options for Chicago.  The Hotel Confession: I booked my hotel before the lottery results!   I wanted to secure a room as soon as possible and the hotel…

Chicago Marathon Training Week 16 – 9/14-9/20

Another week in the books! This past weekend I was able walk through the Udvar-Hazy Center (the "companion facility" to the Air and Space Museum at the National Mall) for the Dulles Runway 10K - isn't the hangar spectacular? Monday 9/14– 2 mile walk + 2.5 mile run + 30 minutes personal training Tuesday 9/15– 2 mile walk Wednesday 9/16 – 2 mile walk Thursday 9/17 – 2 mile walk  Friday 9/18 – 2 mile walk Saturday 9/19– Dulles Runway 10K Sunday 9/20 – Metric…

Chicago Marathon Countdown – Motivation

T-minus 4 weeks and some until the 2015 Chicago Marathon!  Last year I wrote a NYC Marathon Countdown (Motivation, Logistics,  Packing, Fueling, Race Day Outfit) series each Wednesday prior to the marathon.  I thought it would be fun to do the same for Chicago now that it is a month away.  Today's topic: motivation! Compared to last year, I think my motivation is a little better (I just need more hours in the day).  Of course I still have those…
