St. Michael’s Half Training 5/11-5/17 – Week 8

May 18, 2015

Last week went by so quickly! Hopefully it will be the same way this week…I am looking forward to a long holiday weekend.  Today I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for the Weekend Update.

Monday 5/11– 2 mile walk + 3.5 miles (including steps)

Tuesday 5/12 – 2 mile walk

Wednesday 5/13 – 2 mile walk + 60 minutes yoga

Thursday 5/14 – 2 mile walk + 50 minutes yoga

Friday 5/15 – 2 mile walk

Saturday 5/16 – St. Michaels Half Marathon + 1 mile walk

Sunday 5/17 – 60 minutes yoga

Total: 27.6 miles

Overall, it was a pretty good week! I finished with 27.6 miles (St. Michaels Half Marathon included) and bested my Fitbit total from the previous week.  Note: I do not count all of my Fitbit mileage towards my total mileage (ex. walking to the grocery store or wandering around the neighborhood are not included).  I started the week with a 3.5 half mile run with my friend Rachel.  It was not the prettiest run – it was humid and my calves were SOOO tight.  We started downtown and ran towards the Memorial Bridge (yup that same bridge at this DC race and that DC race).

Then we went up and down and up and down the steps.  It actually felt good to run up those stairs – will definitely be back for more.  I need to work on the down portion…I am a bit scared of running fast (fear of tripping).  After some stretching, we made our way back downtown (which included a slight incline).

On Tuesday, Cliff and I went to Tono Sushi for some Japanese food.

He had katsu curry (pork cutlet and beef curry shown above) and I had katsudon (pork cutlet and egg over rice shown below).  Sooooo good and plenty of leftovers for the next day.

This week was also great on the yoga front! I went a CPY twice and a power yoga class at my gym (mehhh it was okay).  Like last week, the hot yoga helped loosen my calves, but it was only temporary…..based on the dot dot dots…you can probably guess how they were during my half this weekend.

On Friday I took a half day from work and my mom drove us to St. Michaels for the half marathon on Saturday.  We walked around town (don’t worry it is very small, so we weren’t on our feet for too long) – it is so cute! I’ll share more pictures this week.

Here is a sneak peak of the medal. What do you think? I thought it looked like a football with the oval shaped spinner and the roman numerals…mehh.

How was your weekend?

Do you like stair workouts?

Yay excited for Thursday! Will tell you all about it.

    1. You just one racing machine! 🙂 The medal design is definitely interesting and different. I wish I could man-up and run outside like you do. I’m such a wimp when it comes to heat and humidity.

Thanks Stephanie! I am not a fan of the humidity as well – have to tough it out for fall marathon training 🙂

Nice thing about those stairs they weren’t too steep. I def would choose those over a stairclimber 🙂

    1. It reminds me of a football too – I really like it! Of course right about now I really like all medals because I haven’t earned a new one in a long time and I have medal envy! 🙂

That little town looks really cute! Can’t wait to hear more about it and the race!

Haha..looking forward to our big shiny medal in October! I guess I was hoping more for a crab or boat theme to the medal 🙂

I am not a fan of the stepmill either.. I find it more challenging than the steps! Oh boy sand ladder or 55 degree water..yikes!

    1. I’ve been thinking I want to find some stairs to run during/after my runs! Also I’ve heard St Michaels is the cutest little town! Hope you had a great race 🙂

Thank you Sherry! Loving the FB – although this week I am taking a bit of a “rest”. Can’t wait to read about your race.

Thank you, Lisa! I like these steps b/c they were not too steep.. hah….I suppose I could try different ones 🙂

It is nice over there – I can see why so many people go cycling out there for their long bike rides.. so flat! Let me know if you make your way to CPY in DC, I’ll be happy to join you. If I’m in FC I’ll let you know! Great seeing you yesterday.

It is a pretty good day trip. From DC it was about 1.5 hours with no traffic. Also.. you pass the outlets on the way there 😉

Hope you get to visit (or run) one day. Haha yes supposed to run up and walk or jog down the stairs..but im incredibly incredibly slow walking down when there are no handlebars…almost paralyzed!

    1. Whoa! That medal looks super-cool, Jenny! I can’t wait to hear all about it, and what a great training week, pre-race. You ROCK! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog!

Thank you, Tara! You are the nicest and its been great linking up!

    1. St. Michaels looks so pretty! I hope you had a great race!

I love stair workouts. There are a lot of things you can do to mix it up, like taking double steps, sprinting up, wide steps, tricep dips or push ups into the steps…

      Have a great week!

Leana, thank you for the suggestions. Since these set of stairs are not too steep.. I could try taking them two at a time. Hope you had a good weekend.

Thanks, Chaitali! It made for a nice mini race-cation.

    1. Looks like another solid week of training! I love that you got to run some stairs this week. Those are always a good workout. Sometimes I run stairs during the gym classes I take for cardio intervals and it never fails to get my heart rate up!

Looking forward to reading your race recap! It seems like you race every weekend, which is great! 🙂

Thanks, Sun! Mar, April and May are pretty full. I tend to race less in the summer (heat) but will be out there for marathon training 🙂 My next 5K is in June.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks, Nathasha – it was a good week. Marathon training starts soon..eks!

    1. The medal does look like a football but the town where the race was held looks pretty neat. It looks like you had a nice taper/easy week too before the race. I’m jealous of your DC area food too, there’s always such good eats there! Can’t wait to read about your race in a few days when you get it recapped, hope you are recovering well now!

It is a cute town, pretty close to Annapolis and crabs galore! I think the same thing about Charleston 🙂 There have been so many articles lately about how great the Charleston food scene is.

      1. Run Jenny Run

I’ll need to look for more in the area to mix them up.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks, Abby! Agreed – so many paths they could have taken for the medal (crabs, boats, etc). Oh well!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Haha, I know right? 🙂 Hope you had a great time in Boston!

Thanks Jess! I never had it until I met Cliff… so yummy!

Thank you. It wasn’t the race I hoped for, but another good weekend with mom. Hope you both had a good MDW!

I saw one girl jump up and down on the top step facing backwards! I am afraid I would fall.
