St. Michael’s Half Training 4/6-4/12 – Week 3

April 13, 2015

Happy Monday everyone! This past week was super busy, but it was SO fun!  Per usual I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for her Weekend Update. Warning: Get prepared for quite a few DC/Cherry Blossom pics!

Monday 4/6– Rest day

Tuesday 4/7 Kristina’s Virtual PAWS 5K+ .5 mile cool down

Wednesday 4/8 – Rest day

Thursday 4/9 – 2 miles with 4 x hill repeats + 60 minutes personal training

Friday 4/10 – Crystal City Friday 5K #2

Saturday 4/11 – 60 minutes yoga

Sunday 4/12 – 1.8 miles walk + Cherry Blossom 10 9.5 Miler + 1.8 miles walk + 60 minutes barre

Total: 21.8 miles

This week all my runs happened outside – I was so happy about that! On Tuesday I finally got a chance to run Kristina’s Virtual PAWS 5K.  I decided to take a DC running tour as part of the run. First stop – my neighbor down the block… haha.

Next up was the White House lawn – people are most familiar with this view from the movies and tv.

After weaving through some alot of tourists I headed south towards Constitution Gardens.  Sometime last year Julie posted a photo of the Constitution Gardens on Instagram.  It has been on my list to run since then.

Pretty views and not that crowded.  I love those green trees – not sure what they are called.

I ran past the World War II Memorial towards the Tidal Basin. I wanted to check out the cherry blossoms.

They were not at full bloom yet, but the views were still gorgeous.

My favorite shot during the 5K! After a few more pictures I turned around and headed back to my office to complete the run.

On Thursday I ran two miles outside before my training session with Jess (I’ll be writing a post in a couple of weeks).

Those two miles included 4 hill repeats along Meridian Hill Park

On Friday I participated in Race #2 of the Crystal City Friday 5K.  I had a much better experience than Race #1 and will share my recap tomorrow.  Saturday was event filled with Core Power Yoga with my friend Rachel (felt good stretching out before the race), and a Oiselle meetup.  Later in the evening I met Cliff for dinner and we each ordered this delicious bolognese pasta dish.

The next day was the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler! It was such a gorgeous morning and I have loads to share later this week.

Following the race I met my cousin Steph at the Kennedy Center for Swan Lake…it was GOOD! I haven’t seen this ballet before, so it was nice to finally get a chance to see it.

On the rooftop terrace – incredible views of DC.

Following the ballet I ended the weekend with a Pure Barre class – which coincided with Courtney’s 100th class!  It was a tough workout, but stretched out some tightness I had in my calves.

Overall a good week!

How was your week/end?

Were you able to spend time outdoors?

    1. Love the cherry blossom pics! I feel like Spring is finally here! Did something happen on the cherry blossom course? I thought I saw someone post they had to redirect you guys for a crime scene?!?

Thanks Jill! I can’t get enough of them. They had to shorten the course about 1/2 a mile. Earlier in the morning a pedestrian was hit by a motorcycle (I think) and they had to treat it as a crime scene. I thought the organizers did a good job of re-routing the course.

    1. Awesome!! What a great week! Love the pics! So neat that the cherry blossoms were in bloom on race day! I think I read somewhere that the last time they were in peak bloom on race day was 8 years ago! So jealous as when I ran in 2013 they weren’t quite there yet. Looking forward to more pics and your race recap!

It was pretty spectacular. I am lucky that I live so close to them. Hopefully next time you run it they will be in bloom? Or we can do our own Cherry Blossom run!

    1. YAY! I’m so glad that you had a great experience in this week’s Crystal City 5K; can’t wait to hear all about that and the Cherry Blossom! These pictures are just great, Jenny; it is SO beautiful there right now! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog and I hope you have a great day!

Haha love it! Such a fun weekend and I’ll see you in a couple of weeks. I’ll let you know if I end up driving or not.

Same! It was fun to see everyone in one place. Love the city right now (well not when its raining).

Thanks Lacey! Looking forward to hearing about your race. Hope it went well.

    1. It sounds like you had a great week and weekend, Jenny. Great john on completing not only the CUCB but also managing to take a barre class the same day. You are hardcore!

I am so envious you were able to see “Swan Lake.” I was bummed to have missed the opportunity by one week. I wish my kids’ spring break was right now so I could see Misty Copeland dance!

Thanks Molly! I am finally getting back to my old routine. We didn’t get to see Misty Copeland dance 🙁 We saw the maintee showing and it was another dancer (who was still good). I would like to see Misty dance one day. I told my cousin about your Nutcracker performance – that would be so fun to do.

Thanks Tamieka! There are two left – come join 🙂 I really liked the medal this year, and the 5K medal was adorable.

    1. I want to run where you run! Every shot is just beautiful! I did run a half marathon there once before but would love to go back for my own running vacation now and take my time and enjoy it all. Thanks for the Cherry Blossom pics – I have been hearing all about them this week – nice to see them!! Have an excellent week!

Thanks Diane! Lucky to live where I do – some nice running paths/trails. Which half did you run in DC? Hope you are having a good week!

Thanks Kelli. I neglected the hills during the last training cycle and was burned for a couple of races. They hurt… but can’t wait to see the long term results.

    1. Hahaha your neighbor down the block. I hear he might be moving out. I wonder if you’ll be getting a female neighbor in the near-ish future?! 😉

The cherry blossoms are so pretty. I want to come up and do this race next year. Is there a lottery for it? I know it’s really popular, isn’t it?

HAHA hilarious! Yes maybe a new female neighbor 🙂 There is a lottery for it (I think opens in Nov-Dec ish) and people can also transfer bibs. If you run it I’ll def take you on a shorter DC running tour (or food tour haha).

    1. Loved your warning about cherry blossom pictures! That got me really excited to read through the post!! They are beautiful and I hope to get to DC some time to witness it in person. I’m pretty sure I went in April when I was in 7th grade, but definitely didn’t appreciate it then!

Hope you get to come to DC one day for the blossoms! I hear the Brooklyn Botanical gardens in NY also has some nice ones.

    1. What an awesome weekend!! So active — I love it! I’m glad the weather was nice for the CB 10-miler. I know a lot of ppl that ran it, and everyone said it was great (other than the course being cut .5 miles short). Love your photos! Also, I’m going to have to add Swan Lake on my things-to-see at the Kennedy Center. 🙂

Have you run it? Yes, you should it add it to your list. I wish we saw Misty Copeland (she performed in the evening session), but it was still good.
