St. Michael’s Half Training 4/20-4/26 – Week 5

April 27, 2015

Oh Monday… how do you sneak up on us so quickly! I am definitely singing “Monday Monday” of Mamas and Papas fame…. hopefully it will not be a “Manic Monday” a la Bangles today.  And I can’t believe it is almost May! As per usual, I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for her Weekend Update.

Painting of flowers in flowers…. you know I could not resist that shot!

Monday 4/20– Rest day

Tuesday 4/21 – 45 minutes spinning + 3 miles + 60 minutes personal training

Wednesday 4/22 – Rest day

Thursday 4/23 – 1.5 miles

Friday 4/24 – Rest day

Saturday 4/25 – 2 miles

Sunday 4/26 – Manassas Runway 5K + 4.9 miles

Total: 14.5 miles

Workouts, this week was very similar to last week in terms of planned vs. actual (you may have noticed I went a little MIA blog-wise during the middle of the week).  Even though my schedule did not go according to plan, I had a good couple of days of exercise.  On Tuesday I went spinning at the new Flywheel studio in Dupont Circle.  It was a fun, sweat-filled class and I’ll share my review later this week.

On Friday I left work with a headache, so I decided to opt out of the last Crystal City 5K race 🙁 Want to hear something funny? Since I did not run race #3 (I was out of town), I studied the 5K course through Google Maps – Street View in preparation for race #4… I was so going to run the tangents! Oh well… I’ll use it next year 🙂

The next day I met Cliff for an afternoon of painting and pizza.  We had a great time and surprisingly it was very relaxing.

Our masterpieces!

The weekend concluded with the Manassas Runway 5K (recap coming tomorrow)- which was Cliff’s first 5K (great job)!  Once we returned to DC I ran an additional 4.9 miles (can you see what I did there) for a total of 8 miles for the day.

How was your weekend?

Have you gone to a painting class before?

I’m sure yours would turn out great – they def walk you through it and its fun to see everyone’s interpretation of the picture. Thanks for the encouragement!

    1. I’m sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well on Friday, Jenny; that’s stinks. I know you’ll be back at it, though! Congrats on your first Flywheel class! I’ve heard so much about these; looking forward to your review! Your paintings turned out GREAT, I think! I love those classes! I’ve just done two, and both times with girlfriends; I would love to take Jonathan, sometime. I think that would be a riot! 🙂 Sounds like you had a great weekend; thanks so much for linking up!

Thanks Tara… luckily I do not have a shortage of 5Ks on my schedule 😉 The Flywheel studio is impressive – so many nice amenities. The playlist was pretty good too. You should definitely go to a paint class with Jonathan.. it would be fun (and maybe funny)!

    1. That painting class looks fun! I’ve never done anything like that before but I keep hearing about it. Sorry to hear that you had a headache at the end of the week 🙁 It seems like last week was heavy on the allergens for a lot of people. Thursday was bad for me last week but I had intended it to be a rest day anyway so it was ok.

Hope you get to try it! I think they have some classes in Montgomery County area. We signed up through a company called Paint Nite. I wonder if it was allergies, hope yours is not bothering you this week.

Thanks Jenn! Hope you get to a class following PGH training. I hope to fit more into my schedule the next few weeks..forgot how fun it is.

Thanks Kathryn! If there was a 5K to miss, I am glad it was the one on Friday and not on Sunday. Fun to see you as always and there to see your PR!

You should do it next year for sure, or even the Dulles Runway 5K or 10K. Aww thanks – you should def go to a wine/paint party for sure.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Haha – perhaps choose the most basic painting 🙂 ? I would like to try the Dulles Runway 5K or 10K… it was nice that it was flat and not too much overage in terms of miles.

Oooh you will have loads of fun! Can’t wait to see what you paint. It was nice Cliff ran the 5K – our first time running together 🙂

Aww thanks Jess! You are right, I am glad I went to sleep early on Friday – I felt good the next morning. Hope you had a nice weekend.

    1. So sorry that you were not feeling well 🙁 but glad you were better to run twice in one day :).

I have done 2 of those painting classes. The first one I did not like because the teacher was very professional and made me feel like a 2 yr old playing with paint. The second was was MUCH more fun (or maybe it was the wine….) and I will definitely do it again. There are always groupons, living social type deal out there.

Yes definitely felt better on Sunday 🙂 Haha wine will make it more fun! Glad you had a better experience the second go around. Thanks for the tip on checking LS and Groupons.

Thank you! It was a fun weekend with new activities. It was nice he got a medal for his first race 🙂

Thanks Steph! Oh you should try.. they really break it down for you 🙂

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Kelli! They break the painting down very nicely – definitely easier than it looks.

    1. Those painting classes look like so much fun and seem to be popping up everywhere. My mom just did one back home in Pennsylvania. I’d love to try it out. I haven’t painted in years! Yours is beautiful!

I’m excited to read your race recap! Way to go, running twice in one day!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Alanna 🙂 We signed up through Paint Nite – they have different locations to choose from in MD/DC/VA.

    1. I have always wanted to go to a painting class but apparently none of my friends are the artsy types because no one will go with me! 🙁 Womp womp. I love the paintings you two did – so similar but so different!

Ahhh bummer! Take Adam 🙂 I was about say.. we can take one in Miami…but then that would require me bringing the painting on the plane haha…may not be fun.

      1. Run Jenny Run

We went to Mellow Mushroom in AdMo through a company called Paint Nite (who offers these classes around DC/MD/VA). There is also Merlots Masterpiece (haha the name always cracks me up) on U Street.

    1. I’ve heard so much about Flywheel – everyone raves over them! Looking forward to hearing your recap. Bummer to hear that you had the headache on Friday, but glad that you seemed to feel much better after getting some rest.

Your paintings are gorgeous! You should frame them and display them proudly in your living room! I’ve never attended any of those painting parties but others’ masterpieces seem to always come out really well. Painting is a nice way to use a different part of the brain, yes?

The Manassas Runway 5K sounds intriguing with the aviation theme. Love the medal! Here in Chicago, they have a race where you get to run on one of the runways at O’Hare Airport. Very unique!

Flywheel was a fun class. I am curious if a Soul Cycle class is similar, but I do not want to pay that much for a class haha. You are right, the rest on Friday night definitely helped. Hope you get to attend a painting class one day – it was a lot of fun. I am hoping to hang my painting by my kitchen soon… I been pretty bad decorating in that area… empty walls for 4.5 years. So fun there is a race at O’Hare!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Karen! Do they offer many of these classes in France?

    1. Bummer that you missed a race! But it doesn’t seem like it bothered you too much! I have never done a paint night and I don’t really have any interest in it. I love your flowers in flowers photo though! Very clever. Did you enjoy it?

It would have been nice if I could improve on the course for the 3rd time, but I know they will be there again next year. I had a great time painting and have a few blank canvases in my home I would like to work on.

    1. I love painting classes. We have the usual, but the one my group goes to doesn’t have us paint the same picture. They have a ton of templates, and we can bring our own picture to paint too. It’s such a fun change of pace.

I like that open studio concept! I should check if any businesses have that option.
