Shamrock Half Training 3/9-3/15 – Week 8

March 16, 2015

This Friday I will be heading down to Virginia Beach for Shamrock Weekend.  So far the forecast is looking good….59Ā°F/Partly Sunny on Saturday and 47Ā°F/Partly Cloudy on Sunday.
Monday 3/9 – 1/2 mile + 45 minutes personal training

Tuesday 3/10 – Rest day

Wednesday 3/11 – 1/2 mile

Thursday 3/12 – 3 miles + 6o minutes personal training

Friday 3/13 – 1.5 miles

Saturday 3/14 – 1 mile walk + Rock ‘n’ Roll DC 5K + 1 mile walk + 60 minutes yoga

Sunday 3/15 – Rest day

Total: 10.6 miles

This week went pretty well – I was able to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise for 4 out of the 7 days.  Work was pretty busy Monday and Tuesday, so I am happy how the rest of the week went.  The fitness highlight of the week for me was the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC 5K.  On Thursday I stopped by the expo. Brooks Running had a huge section and I thought this sign (part of “Run Happy”) was pretty cool.

The race went better than expected (helped me confidence wise) and I really liked the 5K medal.  I’ll share my recap tomorrow.

After some rest (napping and catching up on blogs) I headed over to Corepower Yoga for their Cowerpower Yoga 2 – Heated Power Yoga.

It felt good to stretch following the run.

In between running and yoga I headed over to my cousin’s house to celebrate her son’s first birthday.  We had pie cupcakes as his birthday fell on pi day! They were really adorable and tasty.

On Sunday I was hoping to get an early run in, but my legs were still a little tired from the day before so I decided it would be a good rest day.  That evening Cliff and I met my parents and brother for an early birthday dinner at Le Vieux Logis.  Delicious French food and a poached pear for dessert.

Today I am linking up with Tara at Running nā€™ Reading for her Weekend Update.

How was your weekend?

Do you have a favorite type of cupcake or local cupcake store?

It was definitely nice to get a good stretch in. Hope you have a great week.

    1. Look at that dessert and those cupcakes!! And why is it that I always comment first on the food?!? HA! Good grief. I’m so glad you had a great weekend, Jenny; sounds like y’all were troopers at the Rock ‘N’ Roll DC events – ugh. I love that Brooks sign – that is so cool! I know you’re going to do great this weekend and the weather sounds like it should be really nice; looking forward to your race recap tomorrow. Thanks so much for linking up with the blog and I hope you have a great day!

Haha I think I do too! The linkup has grown so much the past couple of weeks – I like reading new blogs šŸ™‚ Thanks for hosting! Have a good week.

    1. Those cupcakes are so cute! I’m happy to hear the 5k went well for you in spite of the rain šŸ™‚ I’m looking forward to hearing how the 5k was for Rock and Roll as that could be a fun option another year.

Thanks Pam. I thought the merchandise was pretty nice this year (especially since there was more local customization to the products). I did resist purchasing them šŸ™‚ I’ll def look out for Christine! Hope your post 20 -miler recovery is going well.

I am very excited and it looks like your training is going well. Do you know which corrals you will be in?

So good and covered with chocolate! Glad I have recap fans šŸ™‚

    1. What a fun weekend, Jenny! I like the medal for the 5K and I can’t wait to read your recap. And those pie “cupcakes”… I love the idea! I am much more of a fruit pie person than a cake person, so those sound like the perfect treat for me.

And I can’t believe your big race day is already that close!

Thanks Molly! They also had the traditional pie…which I gladly took a piece of šŸ™‚

    1. It’s awesome that they have a 5k option at RNR DC now! Not sure if I would travel there for it, after being reminded how difficult it can be to get in and out of DC on a race a weekend, but Im sure its great for locals who are looking to get involved in the race weekend without doing the half or full!

I like when race weekends offer multiple distances – a race for everyone. I would agree, it would be more of a pain to drive from Baltimore to DC for a 5K…especially since this course blocks several major roads.

Haha I saw the shoe on someone else’s blog. I didn’t get to go inside the Run Happy section, next time!
