Shamrock Half Training 2/23-3/1 – Week 6

March 2, 2015

I am very happy to see the month change from February to March.  While it is still cold out (DC had sleet/ice storm yesterday that left it very slippery out – be careful this morning), I am looking forward to warmer weather, spring races, and all other outdoor activities that come with it.

Monday 2/23 – Rest day

Tuesday 2/24 – 1/2 mile + 60 minutes personal training

Wednesday 2/25 – Rest day

Thursday 2/26 – 60 minute sports massage

Friday 2/27 – 1.5 miles

Saturday 2/28 – 8 miles and change

Sunday 3/1 – St. Pat’s 5K and 10K and change

Total: 19.3 miles

I am happy to see my total mileage increase from last week.  I hope I will be able to maintain this week to week (ideally I would like to get back to a consistent 20-30 mpw).  The past couple of work weeks have left me fatigued – I go home and fall asleep immediately.  I am hoping I could adjust my schedule a bit so I do not miss a planned workout (last week it was yoga).

On Friday night I enjoyed a nice dinner in with Cliff and we watched a few episodes of House of Cards.  I was a bit exhausted from the week and fell asleep during the second episode.  The next morning I met my friend Rachel for an 8 miler.  It was cold out, but luckily the trails were clear. While not the easiest of runs, this was certainly the highlight of the week (fitness wise).

Oh you know… the runner shoe/leg shot.

Later that night I had a Gilt City voucher for Lost Society.  Overall the meal was good and we split a Nutella S’More for dessert.  It was so rich, I only managed a few (large) bites πŸ™‚

The next morning, after checking if the 5K and 10K were still on, I headed to the mall for the St. Pat’s Double.

Luckily I was able to meet up with Kathryn before the race and we were able to catch up during the 5K.

Later that evening, we headed to my parent’s house for New Years Dinner Part 2.  Some of my favorites:

Today I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for her Weekend Update.  Congrats to Tara on finishing marathon #2!

How was your weekend?

Did you run outside? Or take it indoors?

Thanks friend. It was certainly not my best race, but a good pulse check where I am endurance wise. I got to HOC episode 6…that will be on hold for the Bachelor tonight!!

    1. Nice job on the double race day. I have heard about those, but I’m not sure I could handle two so close together. So glad you were able to meet up with Kathryn. We are also just starting House of Cards and watched the 1st episode last night. Don’t feel badly about being tired, I laid on the sofa ll afternoon after my 15 mile run yesterday. I’m kinda wiped out at the moment.

Thank you! It was nice having a running buddy for the 5K. Hope you are feeling recovered from your 15 miler – HOC is a good way πŸ™‚

    1. I hope your work week eases up a little this week. I hate those weeks where I just come home and fall into bed. It makes it feel like work = life instead of just being part of life!

I’m looking forward to hearing about the 5K/10K double. There’s one of those kind of races here in May that I’m thinking about doing!

Agreed! I was so bummed that I did not even get to the gym or yoga to de-stress a bit. I’m hoping for a better week. Hoping to have my recap up on Thursday…..ohhh you should do it πŸ™‚

Always good to see you! The miles flew by for me as well and it was so fun to catch up. See you soon and yay for getting into Wine and Dine!

    1. Awesome job on the 5k/10k double (in icy weather, too!)!! Looking forward to hearing more about that. And congrats on increasing your mileage! I love that you stuck a sports massage in your week. That’s sounds really nice. Gonna have to try that one of these days. I’m hoping to start season 3 of HOC this week. Excited! Have a great week!

Thanks Nathasha. I def would like to run this again (and hoping there will be no snow next year). Pacers also has a Clarendon 5K/10K…that could be fun (in the fall). Wish I could get a massage every month! Hope you enjoy HOC.. I am on episode 6.

Thanks Chaitali! I wish we had better weather on Sunday. You made a good decision to stay inside. Very impressed with your 9+ miles on the TM.

Thanks Mindy! Was so happy to see you had that huge PR!

    1. I can’t stop looking at this s’more, Jenny!! I think my glycogen stores need replacing after yesterday’s marathon, don’t you?!? Hahahaha!! I’m always looking for an excuse to eat sweets, girl! I can’t believe y’all are STILL getting ice/snow; we have more in the forecast for later this week and I am so ready for Spring to arrive. How was your race? Mar said that the weather was awful; I hope you’ll recap more for us! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog today; hope your week is off to a great start!

Haha…feel free to virtually indulge in all my food! Hope you are enjoying some delicious post marathon treats. My 5K went as planned, but my 10K not so much (I was also tired from the previous day). The weather was horrible, especially the last portion of the race/walking to my car. I hope to get a recap up this week. Always fun linking up – been growing the last couple of weeks!

Thanks Sharon! I prob would have been fine with a quarter of it πŸ™‚

    1. I just found your blog through Kathryn πŸ™‚ Looks like you had a great weekend. I am definitely looking forward to warmer temperatures too, though I stayed inside this weekend to let my knees recover.

Hi Sher! Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚ Looking forward to hopping over to your blog. Hope your knees are feeling better.

Thanks Ali! The 5K went well, but the 10K not so much. But I am happy I got the running in.

Thanks Sherry! It was the battle of the elements (and fatigue) for the 5K and 10K.

I think you made the BEST decision to stay inside, given how close it is to Paris! Hopefully I’ll get to meet you soon!
