Shamrock Half Training 2/16-2/22 – Week 5

February 23, 2015

Happy Monday and welcome to my new home! This past weekend I moved my blog from Tumblr to WordPress and I am quite happy with how it went (I was anticipating major hiccups).  I am still working through my “transition” list and learning to navigate WP (plugins, dashboard, widgets etc).  I will share my experience with everyone this week.  Now onto training:

Monday 2/16 – Rest day

Tuesday 2/17 – 1.5 miles

Wednesday 2/18 – Rest day

Thursday 2/19 – 1 mile + 60 minutes personal training + 15 minutes stairclimber

Friday 2/20 – Rest day

Saturday 2/21 – 60 minutes yoga + 5 miles

Sunday 2/22 – 8 miles

Total: 15.5 miles

I am happy I was able to increase my total mileage from last week, and I am hoping to get back into my normal routine this week.

On Monday I left warm Austin and returned to snowy DC.  While we sat at the gate, we saw the plane in the background get de-iced…it was pretty neat.

On Wednesday it was Chinese New Year Eve/Ash Wednesday. Cliff and I headed to my parent’s house in Maryland where we had a yummy dinner prepared by my mom.  My aunt, uncle and cousins were there as well.

On Saturday the plan was to meet Lindsey in Silver Spring for a short run, but I opted out after stepping outside that morning (ummm 15 degrees…no thanks).  I worked on the blog for a bit then headed to the U.S Botanic Gardens where I met Julie for some free yoga.  This was my first time there (visiting the gardens and for yoga) and it was packed! The instructor said they will be hosting free yoga outdoors during the summer months.

After yoga, Julie kindly dropped me off at the metro and I headed to the gym for my long run. Even though I had a pretty view and decent Lifetime movie on, I called it quits after 5 miles.

I had a nice movie night with Cliff and headed back to the gym on Sunday evening for LR attempt #2.   Eight sweaty miles later I was done.

Today I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for her Weekend Update.

Did you end up running inside or outside this weekend?

Do you have a mail subscription recommendation?

Thanks Lara! It has been fun working on the blog. Hope you had a good weekend.

    1. Just looking at that snowy picture is making me feel cold! I saw your update that the gym was sweltering though. Whenever I visit friends or family up north I always think public places over compensate for the cold with too much heat. I like being warm, but I hate going from freezing to super warm. It makes me feel so uncomfortable… and sleepy!

I am sleepy everyday! I think the combination of heat + “warmish” temperatures (47ish) outside contributed to the sweaty conditions.

    1. I keep saying I should link up with Tara! My Sunday nights are hectic what with marathon training and all. I wish I had done a more consistent recap of my training weeks. I have taken pictures though. It’s the little things. Haha. Next time you have a delicious spread like that, let me know. I’ll fly out and join you. I love authentic chinese food!!! And congrats on the new self hosted! Looks great!

You should – been introduced to some new bloggers and I like reading about life in SD. You’ve had a great set of IG training photos that would be a nice collage once you complete your marathon (very excited for you). Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks Sharon! Whenever I see your pictures, I always think to myself “Get outside and run” πŸ™‚

    1. It sounds like you had a great week- increase in miles, blog move, and Chinese new year. All that food looks delicious and I bet you had a fun celebration! Be careful with all the snow there, yikes. I ran outside both days this weekend but it’s pretty nice weather here. We are supposed to get freezing rain soon, though, and I won’t run in that.

The blog looks great. I love wordpress- it’s the industry standard and knowing how to use it is a great skill to have, not just as a blogger but as a professional.

Thanks Lauren! It was a busy week, but now I am really glad I moved my blog. It has been fun working on it.

It was so pretty! Can’t wait to spend more time there. Thanks for ALL YOUR help friend!

Thanks Jess! Will def take you up on your offer if I have any questions.

    1. Jenny, the blog looks fantastic; I think you will really enjoy WordPress. I use it at work, too, so it’s been really helpful to learn a lot of the ins and outs along the way. What do you mean by “mail subscription service?” The dinner your folks made looks FANTASTIC!! Wish I’d been there – ha! I hear you on the treadmill running; it’s so tough for me, too. I waited until late in the day on Saturday, when the weather finally cleared up, to get my long run in; after all of my treadmill runs last week (due to icy roads), I just couldn’t handle a long one! Today, though, it’s snowing and I hit the treadmill this morning – ugh. C’mon Spring!! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog today; hope your Monday is going well!

Thanks Tara! My experience with WordPress has been good so far. Mail subscription – a way for a reader to get an email notification when there is a post. Hehe the dinner was good and there is a second dinner this weekend, looking forward to that. Can’t believe your second marathon is already here!

Thanks! Good to know πŸ™‚ Glad commenting is easier now. Congrats on getting your run in during the rain.

Treadmill queen! They have one more session this Saturday at 10:30 am (but you would want to get there early to get a spot). They are going to offer yoga again this summer – I’ll message you when I come across it. Thanks for the recommendations a couple months back about the email subscription. Going to work on that this weekend.

    1. I started on WordPress and I loved it! Everything seems so easy to do. I hope you like it. I got to run in DC last March and I loved it! It seems I follow quite a few of you guys from DC! I did run this weekend, outdoors and it was awesome. Still a bit sore though. Have a wonderful week!

Getting easier everyday, I wish I switched over earlier! Glad you you had a good run in DC last year – let us know if you are ever back! Hope you are having a good recovery week.

    1. Yay for the move to WordPress! I think the commenting feature is so much easier than Tumblr and Blogspot. Welcome to the WordPress club! πŸ™‚

That picture of downtown DC looks like a photo of a city in Siberia. All frozen! Yikes.

No running for me this past weekend because I don’t have my doctor’s go-ahead yet. I did go skiing, which was a nice little quad/glute workout, though.

Agreed, and commenting is a little more mobile friendly now. The snow came earlier than expected, the next day it was gorgeous out. I don’t think I’ll be able to hit the slopes this year, maybe next πŸ™‚
