As you may recall, this past weekend I hosted a bridal shower for my good friend Patty. You may have seen some chalkboard frames in my pictures – I made them! While I primarily write about fitness, running, traveling and food, I am quite crafty. I thought this would be a fun project to share on Run Jenny Run.
I bought the frames from A.C. Moore when they went on sale. I am sure you can find similar ones at Michaels or your local craft store.
I bought Rust-Oleum primer and chalkboard spray paint. Rust-Oleum also sells chalkboard paint, but I am lazy and did not want any major cleanup.
Remove the glass panes from the frame and wipe off any dust. Spray the primer on the glass, let it dry for 1 hour and repeat. Do the same with the chalkboard spray paint.
Let the chalkboard dry for 24 hours. Take a piece of chalk and season (rub) the chalkboard. They suggest using the side of the chalk, but it ended up scratching my chalkboard (I bought cheaper pieces of chalk). I used the ends and it worked well.
Cute right? I think I spent approximately $40 on the three chalkboards. I will keep the larger one up in my apartment and use the smaller ones for entertaining .
Are you crafty?
Have you used chalkboard paint or spray paint before?
