Friday Five – Upcoming Spring Races

March 20, 2015

Today is Friday! Which means I’ll be heading to Virginia Beach, VA for Shamrock Weekend (here is my Five Things Shamrock post).  Today I am linking up with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia and the theme is “Spring”.  Given today is the first day of Spring, I thought it would be appropriate to share my Upcoming Spring Races post Shamrock.

1. Philadelphia LOVE Run Half Marathon

Home of my half marathon PR, I will be running the second edition of the race with  my friend Rachel (my friends Nathasha and Emily will be there too).  I am hoping there will be better weather this year, last year there was a downpour!

3. Cherry Blossom 10 Miler

Despite the crowds, the 2014 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler was one of my strongest races of the year. It looks like the race may align with peak bloom… so we may actually get to run the Cherry Blossom race under the Cherry Blossoms…what what?! I’ll also be volunteering at the expo for guaranteed entry for next year.

2. PR Trail Series Algonkian Park

Image: =PR Spring Trail Run Series=

In February I learned Potomac River Running hosts four free trail run series in the Spring/Summer. One of my goals this year is to run a trail race.  While technically not a race, it should help me prepare for one.  Now the question… should I run the 30 minute, 60 minute, or 90 minute option?

4. Manassas Runway 5K

Last month I shared this 5K as one of my Five Races to Run in 2015.  It will be flat, and I look forward to running with Cliff.

5. St. Michaels Half Marathon

Two more months of training/conditions + a flat course = half marathon PR attempt for Jennifer.  Fun Fact: the movie the Wedding Crashers was filmed in St. Michaels.

What is your next race?

Will I see you at any of the above racers?

PS – Shamrock runners/volunteers look out early next week for a Shamrock Recap linkup hosted by yours truly and my fellow J&A Ambassadors, Sarah and Lindsey

    1. Good luck at Shamrock!! You have a fun list of races, especially the trail running. I haven’t been trail running as much since I entered the world of triathlon but those are some of my favorite types of running events. I would say start with the shorter ones and work into it – all those little stabilizing muscles in your feet take a bit of time to get used to the different surface.

Ahh boo. Depending on the fall marathon, I am looking at the Navy Air Force 5 or half. We’ll meet one day 🙂

Ooooh can’t wait to hear about that one. I really want to visit your neck of the woods (have some friends in Portland).

So stoked so many of you are running the 17.75. It was so great to see you this past weekend!

Super fun! Those are two cities I’ve never visited. RnR Country Music is on my race bucket list and I look forward to hearing about Denver (don’t know much about the races there).

    1. I honestly am so impressed by how often you race. I know that most of the time you’re not going for PR attempts, but just the dedication you show by getting up early to get to these races is impressive! I think I would race more if it didn’t require me to get up at 4am on the weekend for a 6:30 or 7am start!

Ick – that is too bad you have to wake up at 4am! I would love more 6:30am or 7am starts, but with winter I see why they don’t have them too early (summer a different story). I am lucky several of these races are within a walk from my apartment.

Yes, hope to see you this spring or summer. Maybe even a Core Power Yoga day.

I like that approach – especially since we can mix it up between the four. Thanks Abby!
