Friday Five – Things I’m Looking Forward to in June

May 29, 2015

Even though this was a short week…it felt sooo long for some reason…yay for Friday! Today I am linking up with MarCourtney, and Cynthia and sharing Five Things I’m Looking Forward to in June.

1. Marathon Training

The Chicago Marathon is a little over 4 months away (134 days to be exact).  This weekend I’ll be tweaking my marathon plan (more about this next week) and excited to up my mileage over the next few months.  Am I excited about the humidity, combating runger, and fatigue? NOPE….but it will be all worth it to cross the finish line come October.

PS – Last year I used the hashtag #jennyrunsnyc (trying to get better at using them).  This year I will be using #jennyrunschicago and #jennyrunsmcm as my hashtags.

2. Family

Dad and brother’s birthdays + both sisters in town = Loads of Family Time.

3. Reunion

Ten years ago I graduated from college – eeks! Next weekend is our college reunion – will be fun to catch up with friends! Fun Fact: Lisa @ Running Out of Wine and I were in the same graduating class, but we did not know each other then! Small world, right?

4. Catching up with Friends

I have plans to see some of my b-school pals in DC/VA/MD, some whom I’ve not seen in months.

5. Running in Baltimore

This year I will be running the Baltimore Women’s Classic 5K.  I haven’t raced in Baltimore since Fall 2013!

What are you looking forward to in June?

What are you up to this weekend?

    1. I am looking forward to Chicago training too – but not the 4:30am long run wake up calls or the heat/humidity! It will definitely be worth it in October though! I can’t wait to hear more about your training plan and goals!

What a small world that you and Lisa were in the same graduating class! Cori from She’s Going the Distance and I graduated high school together – but we were friends back then too. We weren’t runners then though! haha

4:30am is impressive! I guess you gotta do what you gotta do in the FL. I should try starting at the 4:30-5:00am hour (since it takes me a bit longer to complete the longer runs), but I am a bit of a scaredy cat running in DC in the dark.

Yup, definitely a small world..and I think it was a your blog where I β€œfound” Lisa’s blog πŸ™‚ So funny you and Cori were in the same high school.

    1. Good luck with the 5K in Baltimore and with starting Chicago training! It has been 8 years since I graduated college and it does not feel like that long ago. It’s so weird to think about. Clay and I will celebrate 10 years of being together this August.

Summer marathon training is hard but I think running consistently when it is hot is worth it, it makes you a long stronger in the Fall. Just have to pay more attention to recovery (which is true for half/full training any time of year) but you will be fine :).

Thanks, Amy! The past 10 years definitely felt like it went by quicker than the first 20 years! Wow.. congrats to you and Clay! The next couple of weeks will be a good test and toughen up for weeks of warmer weather πŸ™‚

Fun!! Good luck! Same…hope the rain holds out…unless it is at the last few minutes of a long hot run πŸ˜‰

Very small world, so surprised I did not know her or her roommates. Our class was “small” (800ish) and most people “knew” each other b/c of the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon type of deal.

Thanks, Janelle! I know, crazy right!? Philly Marathon for you? πŸ˜‰

Thanks, EB! Yes, I am with you on excited/nervous at the same time! Hope you had a good weekend.

    1. Oooooh, I’m getting so excited about your upcoming Chicago training, Jenny; it’s going to be so much fun to follow along! I love your hashtags, too; that is a great idea! Let’s see, I have a couple of really fun races in June, but I’m mostly looking forward to supporting Jonathan in his first triathlon of the year on June 13; it’s so fun to watch him race! Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks, Tara! I think I am even more excited this year b/c I know areas I want to improve upon from last year (before that… it was a 7 year gap…so I “forgot” what it was like to train for the marathon). Good luck to Jonathan on his first triathlon of the year – so nice to see all the tri recaps starting to pop up! Hope you had a great weekend!

Chicago will be my goal race and MCM will be to finish πŸ™‚

Thanks, Michelle! I had a nice 2 weeks “off” excited to get back into training.

Hoping the PT is going well and your aches are going away. The year sure goes by quickly, can’t believe it is already June! So excited for training to begin and hope you had a great weekend.

Very excited for you! I’ve bookmarked so many recaps to read (and read again).

    1. You have some excitement coming up! Can’t believe it is nearly June already. I am excited for two destination races – Escape from Alcatraz and IM Mont Tremblant. Some long weekend trips with my husband and some fun racing.

I wish I could make Fit Foodie, you all will have a great time. Looking forward to following MCM Mama train for MCM (again) πŸ™‚ They said May was the hottest May on record.

    1. Sounds like you have a lot of fun things planned for the Summer! I totally missed my 10 year college reunion. I’m looking forward to the Lawyer Have Heart race in a couple weeks πŸ™‚

Will be fun – not sure how many more I’ll attend after this year πŸ™‚ Maybe I should volunteer at Lawyers Have Heart this year, I resisted signing up (so far).

      1. Run Jenny Run

I probably see the two in my pic the most, but I look forward to seeing some classmates and old roommates I haven’t kept in touch with most. Nowadays I see more of my grad school friends vs. undergrad friends. Should be fun, thanks πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Ooooh they both sound like fun!!! What are these two events you speak of? πŸ™‚

          1. Run Jenny Run

Nice, I’ll take a look at it and email you πŸ™‚

Thanks Tracy! Congrats on your tri this past weekend – rocked it!

    1. How cool! πŸ™‚ The Chicago Marathon. All these people doing marathon training are making me… itch.. just a bit for more marathon training. πŸ˜‰ I think I’ll have to stick to 5ks right now though!

This Summer. I’m looking forward to trying a backpacking trip with my siblings! :))) Yay for the outdoors.

Thanks Karen! Hope everything is going well with your little one. Oh for some reason IG is being buggy and won’t let me follow you πŸ™ I’ll try emailing support soon.

      1. Run Jenny Run

I look forward to following yours as well! So excited for you πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Oh wow! Hopefully you’ll get to run in the Baltimore Half or 5K one day – it is fun. I would like to form a team for the Baltimore Marathon Relay one year. It will be tough… hopefully May is not a preview of what is to come this summer!

      1. Run Jenny Run

That should be fun! I’ve never been to a blogger conference – looking forward to reading about it.

      1. Run Jenny Run

So exciting that half marathon training begins at the end of June – maybe I’ll bump into you during long runs! Have fun in Chicago – will be open to any tips and suggestions, I’ve never been!

    1. How exciting to start training for the Chicago Marathon this month! You have a such a great base from winter/spring that I’m sure you’ll have a seamless transition!

This month, I’m looking forward to the Rock n Sole quarter marathon race. It’s mid-month and I’ve never done the distance before! Should be a fun test πŸ™‚

Thanks, Sun! The Rock ‘n’ Sole quarter marathon sounds like it would be a lot of fun. I am bummed I missed the race a couple of years ago when I was on a work trip to Milwaukee. I realized there was such a race only when I arrived….means I’ll need to visit WI again πŸ™‚
