Friday Five – Reasons to Run the Annapolis Running Classic

September 4, 2015

Happy Friday!! Who is ready for a long weekend?  Today I am back with a Friday Five post and linking up with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia.  This week’s theme is Fall Races, so as an  Annapolis Running Classic Ambassador I thought it would be the perfect time to share Five Reasons to Run the Annapolis Running Classic.

1. Beautiful State Capitol Course

I ran the 2013 Annapolis Running Classic Half Marathon (recap here).  The course starts at the Navy Marine Corp Memorial Stadium and takes you through historic/downtown Annapolis for the first five miles of the race.  It is beautiful!

2. Two Race Options

You can sign up for the 10K or half marathon distance!

3. Swag Time

Check out this year’s Finisher’s Premium:

  • 10K: Short Sleeve Shirt
  • Half Marathon: Long Sleeved Half Zip

4. Bling Bling

Both 10K and Half Marathoners receive a medal.  Each year the medal features an Annapolis landmark. Check out the medal proof below.

5. Finisher Fun

You cross the finish line and collect your medal and finisher’s premium.  Here is what you can expect following the race:

  • Bananas and bagels and award-winning Country Tomato soup or vegetable broth
  • After-party with live music, Fordham and beer
  • Oysters, both grilled and on the half shell

I hope to see you on November 21, 2015! Feel free to use JYREF15 for 10% when signing up for the race!

As a bonus, here are my next five races (which will serve as part of my training runs before Chicago):

I’ll also be running the Clarendon Day Double 🙂

Are you signed up / will you be signing up for the Annapolis Running Classic?

Have you run in your state capitol before?

Disclosure: As an Annapolis Running Classic Ambassador I receive a complimentary race entry.  All thoughts and opinions on the blog are my own.

    1. Wow, you have quite the list of fall races fast approaching. The Annapolis races sound really fun and perhaps I can talk Tom into a weekend trip there next fall! The race sounds like it is very well done and medals for all finishers is a nice touch. Too late this year, with NYC Marathon on my radar at the moment!

I love fall race season 🙂 I will use several them as part of my training runs leading up to Chicago. Nice change in scenery, running with others, and trying out different fuels. The medal has a nice simple, classic look to it. Very excited for you/NY!

Yes, we will def meet this time! Haha 🙂 Depending how I feel I may end up changing from half to a 10K…we’ll see. I’m excited about BIH – will be nice to see the hot air balloons and the horseshoe medal is pretty awesome. I know some people who work for Federal Government (I don’t work for them) received an email to telework when the pope is in DC.

    1. That’s neat that you get to be a race ambassador for so many races there (I wish we had races here that did that!). This one looks really fun with the half-zip and also the finisher’s medals. I have never run in my state capitol of Columbia… I don’t get out of Charleston much for races, unfortunately.

A lucky year! I just wrapped up J&A (2014-2015 ambassadors cannot apply again for another 2 years..which makes sense for new people to participate in that program) and I saw a posting about the Annapolis Running Classic. I probably don’t get to Annapolis as often as I do Baltimore – I should change that.

    1. Your race looks wonderful! I already have one scheduled for that weekend out here so I’ll just look forward to your recap 🙂 No, I have not run in Sacramento before and don’t really see me doing that anytime soon….maybe San Francisco is close enough to our capitol and we’ve run there plenty of times 🙂 Happy Racing!!

Thanks Diane! Maybe next time 😉 The only race I’ve run in CA is the Healdsburg Half..hopefully more to come in the future.

    1. I remember reading last year about races in Annapolis, and how nice it is running through the historic areas. It’s one of those I think I need to make the trip slightly north for.

You have a busy and awesome schedule coming up. I love that you’re doing Bird in Hand. I’ve heard the handmade medals are pretty awesome. Running through rural PA can be fun too. That’s a beautiful country area up there.

Hopefully you’ll get to run it this year or years to come 🙂 I read that the historic part of Annapolis has a limit of how many races that are held a year, which is probably why there isn’t an overabundance of races in the city. I am really looking fwd to next weekend’s half – esp for the medal haha.

It will be a busy month, but I will use them as training runs for Chicago 🙂

    1. I like that Annapolis gives away a half zip for the half marathon. That’s a very impressive September race schedule! I may run one or two before Chicago, but not that many. Good Luck!

Thanks! Most I’ll use as part of the training run 🙂 Nice change to August solo running.

    1. Sounds like a great race! You have a full schedule in September! I have ran in my state’s capital the last 3 years and hoping to for the last time in November. I’m hoping to do the Trenton 10K before we leave for Davis, then I will be running in Sacramento lots! 🙂

Busy but fun! An Annapolis wedding sounds like it would be beautiful. Have fun.

Looking fwd to seeing you at Dulles as well! We went from Runway 2 Runway.. seems like we just ran Manassas!

That makes sense! Hope the recovery continues to go well. I am enjoying your morning run pics again.

Definitely! Last weekend I received a thermal long sleeve, which was nice (under armour provided the premiums).
