Friday Five – Favorite Race Swag

July 17, 2015

Another Friday! How is it the middle of July already?  We were all just celebrating Independence Day.  Today I am linking up with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia and this week’s Friday Five theme is Favorite Race Swag.  Fun, right?!

1. 2014 New York City Marathon (Recaps Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)

This is definitely a sentimental favorite! Nothing out of the ordinary – we received a nice long sleeved technical shirt.

One of my favorite medals EVER!

The option to choose a post marathon poncho in lieu of bag check (yes I’ve used it a couple of times in the snow or rain haha).

2. 2015 Shamrock Half Marathon (Recaps Part 1, Part 2)

This was my first year running the Shamrock Half Marathon and J&A Races do not disappoint! Following the half marathon finishers received a hat, towel and a medal (two if you participated in the Dolphin Challenge).  Anyone running Surf ‘N’ Santa this year? If so, see you in December!

3. 2013 Annapolis Half Marathon (Recap here)

The Annapolis Half Marathon was one of the first few recaps I wrote on this blog! This year I am a member of the Annapolis Running Classic Ambassador Team aka the A-Team, feel free to use JYREF15 for 10% OFF!  The swag was great – medal, finisher’s shirt (rocking the Maryland colors), socks, and a visor.  Also, there is a post race festival with oysters.  Hope to see you November!

4. 2014 Wineglass Half Marathon (Recaps Part 1, Part 2)

Another favorite from last year + ever! Wineglass Runners receive a long sleeve tech shirt, spike bag, glass and a split of champagne (or sparkling wine I suppose if you want to get technical).

Of course what Wineglass is also known for….their glass medals!

5. 2013 SeaWheeze Half Marathon (Recaps Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)

This half marathon was the first race recap on Run Jenny Run. I ran the second edition of the race and I had a great time in Vancouver with my friends Laurel and Jenn.  Ahead of the race Lululemon mailed shorts out to the participants (instead of race shirts).

Race weekend we received a nice cloth spike bag, skull candy earbuds, these oil ointments, and one of my favorite medals of all time! It is made out of wood and it opens.

Interested in more of my favorites? I’ve posted about my Favorite Race Shirts here and a Year in Review -2014 Medals (Bling Bling) here.

Do you have a favorite medal?

What is the most unique swag you’ve received?

I like when Disney reveals their medals! The Star Wars were pretty neat from other posts as well.

Yes come up north to run Shamrock – you would like it alot! 🙂

      1. Run Jenny Run

Me too! Yes you should def run Wineglass one day. Courtney is running the full this fall. I re-read your Boordy recap – are you running in it again this year?

    1. Wow, that’s awesome that you got shorts for Sea Wheeze 🙂 That race sounds like it has a lot of great swag.

      1. Run Jenny Run

It was pretty nice and they the design of the shorts and medals year to year (note: like Disney races, their race merchandise sells out quickly, and much like Disney they reappear on eBay marked up).

Ohh I would have to second Tervis Tumblers as well. A sweatshirt sounds great!

    1. I’m still so jealous of that post-run wrap/rain jacket hoodie everything from the NYC Marathon; those things are SO COOL! I remember seeing it in your recap and thinking, “wow…that’s what the BIG races are like.” I’d be wearing that thing all over town, Jenny – ha! Hope you have a great weekend!!

Haha, you would! I wore it to the restaurant after the race 🙂 Tara, even the volunteers had a variation of the poncho or jacket – came in handy for the water stops. Hope you are having a great week!

Agreed – you do not see many of those. I think that is what makes Big Sur also very appealing 🙂

The BRF ones are nice! I should do a TBT post one day and share the old medals. They get nicer and nicer every year. My friends and I may be running a relay that weekend.

It was nice for them to mail the shorts – can’t imagine what their expense line came out to for that…but I’m sure they made it all up with all the merchandise they sell race weekend.

Nice when races add local/special touches to the race. I really do like the classic appeal of all the B.A.A medals/shirts.

Thanks, Sherry! So jealous you are closer to Vancouver than I am 🙂 Hope you get to run there one day (Lulu or not).

      1. Run Jenny Run

I’ve put that towel to good use already! Looking at my 2016 draft schedule…doesn’t look like Shamrock will make it – hopefully for 2017.

Thank you, Amy! That is very nice you have your own personal bag check!

      1. Run Jenny Run

All fun races! After you ran Flying Pig I really want to try that one as well. What is your favorite AZ Half?

      1. Run Jenny Run

Exactly! Also, if you want to do the glassblowing activity that weekend you’ll want to book in advance. The good times/slots fill up quickly.

Thank you, Karen! Good races or bad races medals hold alot of memories. I really liked the Paris Marathon medal from this past year, I wonder what it will look like for 2016 🙂

      1. Run Jenny Run

It was pretty nice, and they change the design/merchandise every year. Even the medal! Looking fwd to catching up on your recap.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Would be neat if we have something like that here! I’ve seen beer glass as AG awards, but for regular swag it would be nice!

      1. Run Jenny Run

So nice! Been using the Shamrock towel alot. Sea Wheeze was fun (they had yoga on the beach the year I went – I think they changed it since then), and Vancouver is amazing! I would visit there again to run another half.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Tiffany’s is a good one. I keep on forgetting about the SF race since I did DC. I should add it to the list 🙂

      1. Run Jenny Run

I am fond of the wood medals – like how earthy it is. Big Sur is def on my bucket list not only for the views but the medal as well!

      1. Run Jenny Run

I completely forgot about the military coins! I need to get them out of one of my boxes and display them near my medals 🙂 Thanks for reminding me .

    1. LOVE the swag you got at the Wineglass Half! Cool glass medal! And of course, sparkling wine is always nice. 🙂 I also love your wooden medal! The shorts are nice, too. Don’t think I’ve ever gotten shorts. Not sure if I’ve gotten any super fun swag… mostly shirts and medals. I like the medal I got for the Hottest Half — doubles as a beer opener 🙂

Beer openers and wine stoppers are always nice. I think my Ragnar medal has a beer opener.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Hope you get to run Wineglass one day – the town is so nice (and you can visit wineries post ..or pre race…for me). And of course I’ll cross my fingers for you if you enter NYC again 🙂

      1. Run Jenny Run

I like it alot! The marathon version is also a different color (they change it year to year).

    1. Wow, I’m totes loving the glass medal! Very unique – I’ve never seen one like it! My favorite medal is one that I received for doing a series of races. It is the biggest medal I own – about the size of my face!

Size of your face?! Just like those Little Rock medals haha. Hopefully you’ll get to run Wineglass one day, the area is just beautiful in the fall.
