Chicago Marathon Training Week 12 – 8/17-8/23

August 26, 2015

Another training week is in the books.  I can’t believe Chicago is less than 7 weeks away! As I predicted..I was a bit swamped returning to the office.  By the time I caught up, it was already Friday! Here is how my week went:

Monday 8/17– 2 mile walk

Tuesday 8/18 – 2 mile walk

Wednesday 8/19 – 2 mile walk

Thursday 8/20 – 2 mile walk

Friday 8/21 – Rest day

Saturday 8/22– Quantico Sprint Triathlon – 750  meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run

Sunday 8/23 – 14 mile run @12:00 min/mile

Total: 25.1 miles (8 walk | 17.1 run )

I wish I was able to squeeze in one more 4-6 mile run, it probably would have helped with my jet lag.  I am happy to report I finished both the Quantico Sprint Triathlon (recap to come) and  my 14 miler this weekend.

Swim

750 meter swim in the Potomac River! I was in the yellow group (second wave) of swimmers.

Bike

20K or 12.4 miles (took me a little to convert…20K = 2 x 10Ks or 2 x 6.2).

Run

Run #1: 5K @12:23 min/mile (12:27, 13:10, 11:56)

Body to Jennifer: “This is what you get for not including brick workouts” …but I finished!

Run #2: 14 miles @12:00 min/mile

I started a little late on Sunday and went to the gym for my long run.  After each hour I took a mini break to stretch, drink water, or go to the bathroom.

Fun

I could not leave you without some food pics! Last Wednesday Cliff and I went to Central for their DC Restaurant Week special.  We each had a cesar salad, fried chicken breast (omg omg so good), and I had peach melba for dessert (Cliff chose a chocolate cake).

On Friday, after packet pickup, we stopped by Filipino Kitchen for some dinner.  This restaurant was on base (there is a sushi restaurant right across the street).

The food was good! We each ordered a combo which came with pancit (the noodles), lumpia (looks like a spring roll), rice, and an entree (I chose chicken afritada and Cliff chose chicken adobo). It was such a steal at $9.99/plate and I took more than half of it home.

How was your week?

Have you ever participated in a Restaurant Week deal?

Note: While I was on vacation I could not publish my training recaps in real time (sans internet for a little bit – it was spotty).  They are live now if you were interested 🙂 If I am on your blog reader, then these posts probably just appeared the past few days.  Enjoy!

    1. Congrats on finishing the tri! I can never seem to remember how many miles 20k is even though I know that 10k is 6.2 and that 20k is 2 times that…You look great in that kit 😉

    1. First, welcome back! Big weekend for you, can’t wait to hear about the tri. We just had restaurant week in my town, too. Got out for a nice dinner this past weekend at a brew pub with amazing food!

Thank you Lacey! It is fun to try out different restaurants (esp ones that are usually pricier and would normally not go to).

Thanks Sharon! It was really good. I tried making Skinnytaste Chicken Adobo, but it came out too vinegary. I’ll have to try another one.

If you need someone to go with, I’ll eat there again! Chi and MCM are so close! Maybe next year you can do the Tri 😉 I recall someone on the swim team as well hehe.
