Covered Bridges Half Training Week 1-3/21-3/27

Made it outside this week! I do have the occasional cough, but it so nice not to be sick.  This June I will be running the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Vermont.  The Berlin Marathon is now six months away (what?!) so this race will be a nice way to assess my overall fitness as marathon training picks up.   Image: Covered Bridges Half Marathon  Monday 3/21 - 5 miles | 12:43 min/mile My usual downtown route at an average 12:43 min/mile…

2015 Damascus Freedom 5K Race Recap

Two posts in one day? Get outta here.  This was my second year (last year's recap HERE) running the Damascus Freedom 5K, which was held the day after the Bird in Hand Half Marathon. Why run back to races?  Image: Damascus Freedom 5K It is a 9/11 remembrance run and the race proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, Fisher House, USO, Disabled American Veterans, and Hero Dogs.  Packet Pickup Like last year, packet pickup was held on Saturday at MMA & Sport…

2015 Bird in Hand Half Marathon Race Recap

Another recap! I ran the Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon this past September.  I first heard of this race after reading "Running with the Amish", a 2012 Runner's World article by Bart Yasso and Steve Friedman.  The half is held in Amish Country which is in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  The last time I visited the area was in second grade - I remember touring a pretzel factory, riding a train, and eating shoofly pie.  I asked my mom if she was interested…

Friday Five – Cherry Blossom 10M/5K Tips

The cherry blossoms are here! Your social media feeds have probably been filled with all the pink/white puffy goodness.  Next weekend is the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler/5K run. This will be my fifth time participating in the event, but first time running the 5K.  My 2014 and 2015 race recaps are HERE and HERE. Today I am linking up with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia and sharing five tips for cherry blossom runners and spectators. 1. Metro Fare Cards If you…

Weekly Workout/Training in Review 3/14-3/20

This past week was spent recovering from my chest cold (the one that keeps you up all night). The plus side - I think I got some major ab work from the coughing (I kid I kid).  The negative side - zero running this week, I even got winded from walking! The highlight of the week was celebrating my birthday with my family and Cliff. Thank you for all your messages and texts :)  Thankfully I am feeling much better and will…

Gate River Run 15K Training Week 11 – 3/7-3/13

And just like that the Gate River Run 15K came and went. Good news or bad news first? Good news, I finished and had a great time visiting my friends in Jacksonville.  Bad news, I came down with a cough on Friday and it made it difficult to run (breath) on Saturday.  I'll detail more in my recap.  I've been battling the cough this week (which has kept me up during the nights), hence the later than usual post.  I…

2016 Race Schedule

This week is all about catching up, so I thought I would share my 2016 Race Schedule (housed and updated in the Upcoming Races tab).   Here are some noteworthy items: Last year I participated in 34 races (Year in Review - 2015 Running by the Numbers), this year I plan on signing up for less races (18 so far).   Includes 2 sprint triathlons, 1 relay, and 1 marathon.  11 new to me races, including half marathons in Vermont…

Year Ahead – 2016 Goals

Better late than never, I wanted to share my 2016 goals.  If you have been following my blog for the past couple of years (2014, 2015), I always had a long list of goals.  I realized some of the goals were more "bucket list" or "to do list" items, such as learning to knit and calligraphy...hmmm maybe another post. This year I wanted to take a more simplified approach to goal setting and narrowed it down to three categories: running, nutrition…

Gate River Run 15K Training Week 10 – 2/29-3/6

February came and went, I cannot believe it is already March.  Today I am joining Holly from HoHo Runs and Tricia from MissSippiPiddlin for the Weekly Wrap. While I was on my little hiatus, I kept drafts of my training recaps, but never hit publish since they were unfinished (note form, not all pics uploaded).  My Gate River Run 15K Training Week 3-9 posts are now live (separate posts).   Image: Gate River Run 15K Monday 2/29 - Rest Day Worked late. Tuesday…

2015 Charles Street 12 Miler Race Recap

The third annual Charles Street 12 Miler aka Chuck12 was held in September...yes you will be seeing quite a few recaps over the next couple of weeks.  I have fond memories of Charles Street as my college sits along that corridor.  I've been wanting to sign up for this race for the past two years, but the August date always conflicted with other races or vacation. This year they moved the Chuck12 to the first weekend in September and I…
