I’m Back + and Butternut Squash Hummus!

January 23, 2014 Happy Thursday everyone! You know I’ve been busy at work when I disappear from the blog world.  Unfortunately there are too many things I need to accomplish, and not enough hours in the day!  I wish I could fit it all in.  Here is a quick recap of what I’ve been up to before I get to my adventure in hummus making! Training for the Miami Half Marathon, I am ready for some fun and sun after this…

Friday Five – What I’m Cooking Next

January 3, 2014 One of my goals for 2014 is to cook a new recipe at least once a month.  I thought it would be a great way to introduce new (and healthy!) foods to my diet, diversify my weekly meals (although healthy, they tend to be same week to week and a bit boring), better my cooking skills, and share the finished product with friends and family (do I hear dinner parties??) After reading some online reviews, I ordered…

New Years Day 5K Recap

January 2, 2014 I hope everyone had a nice New Years! A snippet from yesterday…my friend Debbie decorated her wine glasses with wine glass markers-they wash off too!  Isn’t that a cute idea? So I’ve been itching to run a 5K since I ran the SOME Trot for Hunger 5K in November. Knowing there would be races on New Year’s Day, I used Run Washington’s website to search for a 5K.  Having run Potomac River Running’s Perfect 10K (or 10…

New Lists, New Goals, New Year-2014

December 31, 2013  Happy New Years Eve! I will be spending the evening with friends in Arlington, Virginia (dinner and back to an apartment to ring in 2014). I love making lists and setting goals! Because I was a good b-school student, I tried to make my 2014 goals S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely).  Here they are: Running  Track my weekly mileage Follow a training plan (include speedwork, intervals, hills) Capture/record race splits Create “A”, “B”, and “C”…

Friday Five-Favorite Travel Photos of 2013

December 27, 2013 My first (and last) Friday Five…in 2013 that is!  I really enjoy the weeks leading up to the New Year-it is a time spent on reflection, goal setting and of course family time.  When I first shared my blog with my cousin (and avid reader!), she liked that I incorporated my travels into my posts (you mean running isn’t 24/7? :) ) Here are my favorite five travel photos from 2013: 1. Frenchmen Street, New Orleans, Louisiana…

Year in Review – 2013 Running by the Numbers

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays! 2013 has been a pretty good year - both professionally and personally. Because of work I was able to travel (and run) A TON and visit several friends along the way.  I am very happy with how my running and fitness level has progressed since the beginning of the year.  Now for the fun part, my 2013 Year in Running Review: Running by the Numbers Having worked in the finance industry and gone to…

14 in 2014

Hello! Apologies for being MIA-work has been a bit busy the past couple of weeks. A month ago I decided to sign up for the “14 in 2014" challenge hosted by Jill Conyers and Marathon Mom. I am committed to running 14 races in 2014.   You can commit to running 14 races at a specific distance (14 x 5Ks, 14 x 10Ks..etc..), trail races, or a mixed variety-I chose the latter.  In 2013 I ran 10 races (woah!): 1 x…

2013 SOME Trot for Hunger 5K Race Recap

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and stayed warm! I had a great time celebrating with my family in Maryland. Logo: SOME This year I decided to try the So Others May Eat (SOME) Trot for Hunger 5K in Washington, D.C.  As the name suggests, the 5K benefits DC’s homeless by providing them with food, clothing, and healthcare every Thanksgiving.  I signed up for this 5K last year, but I overslept and missed the start……(yes those are ominous dot…
