Turkish/Georgian Vacation Recap – Part 4

Missed Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3? Ali and I spent our last day in Istanbul visiting Dolmabahçe Palace.  This beautiful piece of architecture sits along the Bosphorus.  It was home to the Sultans between 1856-1922.  Below is a view of the palace from our ferry ride the previous day.  While Topkapi Palace (located in Old City and the more popular tourist attraction) was built using classic Ottoman architecture, Dolmabahçe Palace was built with French influence in mind.  Look at  the…

Turkish/Georgian Vacation Recap – Part 3

Missed Part 1, and Part 2? Days 2 and 3 were spent touring Istanbul.  After a yummy breakfast (more food pics from my trip here) Ali and I headed to the Galata Tower where there were magnificent views of the city. Afterwards we hopped onto a tram towards  Old City and visited the Basilica Cistern - so stunning. This was built in the 5th century during the Byzantine Empire. We rented walking audio guides - well worth the $5. Next was…

NYC Marathon Training 8/18-8/24 – Week 10

August 25, 2014 A little over 2 months before NYC - yikes!!  Speaking of NYC, I received an email about their new marathon merchandise, what do you think?  I am a bit indifferent at the moment, I do not think I will pre-order anything and will wait for the expo (more options + a little superstitious). Friday Five – Things I Love About J&A Races

August 22, 2014 Happy Friday! Today I am linking up with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia and the theme is “Five Things I Love (or Like) About______.”  I thought about this statement for a couple of days….. for some reason I had major writer’s block.  Then it hit me, I could share Five Things I Love About J&A Races.  My J&A Ambassador announcement was a bit brief and did not go into much detail about the organization and my role (note - this is not…

Tasty Thursday – Canadian Edition, Ey!

Today I will be sharing some of the delicious food I ate while in Montreal and Quebec City.  These two cities are in Canada’s Quebec province and have a strong French influence because of French rule in the 1500s. Next week Tasty Thursday will be back to its regular programming and have a recipe :) Crepes galore!! Savory crepe. Sweet crepe. Portuguese egg tarts (also known as po-tarts) at the Jean Talon market… sooo good! The last time I had…

Turkish/Georgian Vacation Recap – Part 2

Missed Part 1? After spending a fun afternoon in New York City, I headed back to JFK Airport for my overnight flight to Turkey.  I settled in my nice window seat, watched some good movies (Rio and the Butler), and fell asleep.  I am pretty lucky when it comes to long haul flights - I can sleep the entire plane ride! Before I knew it, I landed in Istanbul a little after 10:00am.  I went through customs (note - US…

PRR Leesburg 20K Race Recap

August 19, 2014 This past Sunday I ran Potomac River Running’s Leesburg 20K.  I did not originally plan this 20K in my initial race schedule, but I had a few races left in my 4 pack and the 12.4 miles fit nicely into my training plan.  At first I was hesitant to sign up because racing in DC in August would be miserable, but then I realized I was thinking irrationally…. I would be running 12 miles as part of…
