Montréal/Québec City Vacation Part 3

After 3 days in Montréal my mom and I headed to our final destination, Québec City. The city is also known as Ville de Québec to differentiate itself from the province and sits northeast of Montreal. We took VIA Rail Canada – it was both scenic and quick (the train ride was approximately 3 hours and there was free wifi). We arrived at the Gare de train Québec (train station) and took a taxicab to our hotel, Auberge Saint Antoine located in the Old Port area.

While the hotel was being built, a large archaeological dig was conducted and they found numerous artifacts from the 1600s! Some of the artifacts are displayed through the hotel. We had lunch at the hotel restaurant, Panache.

I had the most amazing heirloom tomato salad and berry ice cream dessert.

My mom has visited the Québec City before so she knew her way around. Compared to Montréal, the streets were a little more spacious and you could tell buildings were recently restored (the town is also a bit smaller). We saw some beautiful windows and signage along the way .

The Old City was built on a hill and our hotel sat on the lower portion. To reach the top portion, you could take a cab/car, walk (not too bad there are stairs), or pay for a funicular ride up the top. There you can visit (or stay) at one of Québec City’s most iconic buildings, Le Fairmont Château Frontenac. It is pretty spectacular inside and in the evening when it is lit up. There are also more restaurants, shops, fortresses, and churches you can visit up top.

The next day we took a tour and visited Montmorency Falls. You could use the stairs to reach the top of the falls or take another funicular. We had to use the latter due to time.

We also visited the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and the architecture inside and outside was amazing.

Following the tour we saw a firework show along the Saint Laurence River (my camera ran out of battery – sad face). It was a nice way to end our vacation.
