Friday Five – Trips/Racecations I Would Like to Take

April 10, 2015

Hellllo Friday…..great to see you again! This weekend is full of activities and I am excited for each one of them.  Today I am linking up with Mar, Courtney, and Cynthia and the theme is Trips.  Since I like to combine vacation + running, I thought I would share Five Trips/Racecations I Would Like to Take.

1. Paris

Last year I missed a family trip to Paris, so I would love love love to visit this city and run the Paris Marathon one day (good luck to Sue this weekend).  Donnez-moi tous les croissants, s’il vous plait (give me all the croissants, please). Note: Registration for the 40th Paris Marathon opens on April 15th πŸ™‚

2. Big Sur/Carmel/Monterey

Following grad school I had a little fun-employment before work began.  My friend Jenn and I flew into San Francisco and took road trip to San Diego where we celebrated our friend’s bachelorette.  We drove along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH)…. amazing views of Big Sur.  It would be fun to go back and run the Big Sur Marathon or the Big Sur Half Marathon.

3. Portland

Image: Travel Portland

I am very fond of the Pacific Northwest after trips to Seattle and Vancouver – the people, the food (of course), the vibe, and the scenery…so Portland had to make the list.  Another plus? My good friends from b-school moved there almost a 1.5 years ago – it would be so nice to see them and also see their adorable son! I’m thinking maybe the Portland Marathon or Eugene Half Marathon in the future.

4. Savannah

Image: Visit Tybee Island

After visiting the charming Charleston, South Carolina this past winter I immediately added Savannah, Georgia to my run/travel list.  The Publix Savannah Half Marathon is a strong contender.

5. Tokyo

Konnichiwa, Japan! Lights + sushi + history + so much more! I wish the Tokyo Marathon coincided with the blooming of their cherry blossoms.  Speaking of cherry blossoms…good luck to everyone running this weekend!

Which city is on top of your travel wish list? (running or no running)

Have you been to any of the cities listed above?

Exactly! There is something romantical and dreamy about the Savannah pic. Only the best from the tourism boards haha.

    1. Love your list and yes, the Tokyo marathon is on my list too! Big Sur is spectacularly beautiful and my running buddy Christie is running the marathon there in two weeks. Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Big Sur is beautiful. So nice your buddy Christie is running the marathon! Between the two of you (and prob with your fellow running group) loads of stories to share following both of your marathons.

I really do enjoy the historical aspect of the South. Plus the architecture is stunning. I hope you get a road trip in one day πŸ™‚

I’ll need to look into RnR Savannah as well. Come do the marathon ahha πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Haha they are scary – there would be alot of hill training for that marathon.

I get so much run envy when I see west coast runs (particular in the winter ahah). The Savannah pics are so dreamy!

I hope so πŸ™‚ I remember your recap, I’ll have to go through it again.

    1. I’ve visited Savannah, but it was a long time ago, Jenny; I’d LOVE to run in that race, as well! Hmm… πŸ™‚ Also, I think Paris would be magnificent; can’t wait to hear about Sue’s experience there. Such a great list!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a super-fun 5K again tonight! Woo hoo!

Wish I could take a sabbatical from work hehe πŸ™‚ Hoping for more PNW in the future.

    1. I’ve been the first three cities, and would move to Portland if I had the opportunity to do so! We live a couple of hours from Portland and it’s a great food city. It’s also home to my favorite book store in the entire world, Powell’s.

Paris is at the top of my list!

That is good to know Portland is a great food city/Powells. I am hoping to make a trip out west within the year. In 2013 I was there frequently for work/weddings – I miss it!

I hope you do as well!! That will be fun to run with your BIL and have your sis/family out there to support you.

    1. I am SO DOWN to run the Paris Marathon! I saw the route when I was there last year and it’s incredibly scenic. Just let me know when you want to sign up and I will totally go with you!!

I am 100 million percent serious about this!!! πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Haha agreed! I’ve done Canada…but would be nice to run a race outside of North America πŸ™‚ London would be honorable mention on my list πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Deborah! Perhaps a DC goes South to Savannah one year? πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

I almost added Maine to the list and thought of you. Will definitely let you know if I make it to Paris next year πŸ™‚

    1. All of these are on my list too and would make great racecations! We are talking about taking a trip from San Francisco to LA this summer and hitting up Big Sur. I’m dying to go!

I hope you make it! That drive is so fun and makes the time pass quickly.

    1. I’ll run Big Sur with you Jenny! I want to do it so bad. We drove the PCH for our honeymoon, and ever since, I’ve wanted to do that race. So spectacular. I’d totally do it, but it would take me 6 hours with all those hills. This FL girl aint too great with hills.

That would be fun! We can do it and I would run with you. Im thinking maybe 2017 haha πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Daisy. I am not too fond of hills (I don’t think many people are haha) – but I think the views will outweigh the pain for me. Hope you had a good weekend.

Thanks Chaitali. Enjoy planning for Japan, how exciting πŸ™‚

So nice you hiked Big Sur, Jenn from Running on Lentils mentioned the same thing. Oooh RnR Savannah would have been fun, but just checked the dates and its 2 weeks following MCM (usually that would not preclude me from running a half, but have some travel earlier in October).

    1. Nice list! I spent some time in the Pacific Northwest and really enjoyed it. Would love to go back. I also love Ireland. My husband and I spent a week touring the west coast of Ireland with no specific plans – just stopped at various B&Bs and took their advise on places to go and things to do. We ended up climbing Carauntoohill, the highest peak in Ireland.

      1. Run Jenny Run

Ireland must have been spectacular. I know that is #1 on my bfs vacation list. I liked that you had no specific plans.

      1. Run Jenny Run

That would be fun! I just searched Prague Marathon on Google images, seems like a fantastic course.

Ooooh Antarctica would be neat, would love to see your list one day! Want to do Paris next year ? πŸ˜‰
