Marine Corps Marathon-Second Chance Registration!

March 31, 2015

Less than a week ago I received an email from the Marine Corps organization informing me I was not selected for the 40th running of the marathon (thank you for all your comments and to friends who offered to find a bib).  This morning I was checking my email when I saw this:

In case the image is too small,

“The sport of running could define your circumstance as a ‘false start.’  At the Marine Corps Marathon, let’s just consider this a ‘make good.’   Read on…as good news is coming.  During the MCM Lottery, your lottery registration was selected but, due to an error with your credit card, was not successfully processed. Your quest doesn’t have to end there though.  Here’s your second chance to get into the 40th MCM to be held on 25 October 2015.”

I was sooo surprised by this email – it was such a nice gesture by the Marine Corps Marathon organization. Last week my bank sent me a new card and based on the above email the bank must have deactivated my card on file (crazy timing, right). Of course I took advantage of this and I registered for this year’s MCM.

Marine Corps Marathon – thank you for this Second Chance!

Note: If I get into Chicago as well, the plan is to run both (Chicago would be my goal race).

Have you ever been given a second chance at registration?

Did you run the 17.75 this past weekend for guaranteed access?

Thanks Kristina! Actually Chicago is still #1! That would be my goal race, and I would run MCM for fun (and I guess that would qualify me as a marathon maniac) πŸ™‚

So glad I read that email! I usually gloss over the ones in that particular account.

I’ll do both! Woo hoo see you in October (and sooner). Oh yeah, I set a reminder up before the Rehobeth price increase.

I know! I don’t usually check that email account everyday since its my “online purchase” email account.

    1. Lucky! After seeing this post, I went back to check my email to see if mine was the same case – no dice. BUT I had a good backup race picked out, so it’s all good. πŸ™‚

The false start analogy was pretty good – it was a nice email to wake up to. Thanks!
