This training cycle feels like a sprint! Chicago is a little over two months away – I don’t feel quite ready yet, mentally or physically. I am sure that will change come September.
Monday 7/27– 2 mile walk
Tuesday 7/28 – 2 mile walk
Wednesday 7/29 – 2 mile walk + 60 minutes personal training
Thursday 7/30 – 2 mile walk
Friday 7/31 – 2 mile walk
Saturday 8/1– 5 mile run @12:24 min/mile
Sunday 8/2 – 9 mile run + Georgetown 5K + 2 mile cool downwalk + 1500 meter swim
Total: 29.1 miles (12 walk | 17.1 run)
The past couple of weeks my runs have been squished into the weekend, not fun at all. Work has picked up a bit and it has impacted my weeknight runs (ummm…to nonexistent). Courtney joined me for some pool time and we came to the conclusion that morning runs (before work) are the way to go for me. If I end up staying at work later than planned, I don’t have to worry about missing a workout. Hoping I can stick to it.
Swim
Got 1500 meters in, which is approximately a mile! I will be sad when outdoor pool season ends.
Bike
Gonna get my butt kicked in this leg in a couple of weeks. Note to self for the tri: do not be disappointed.
Run
Run #1: 5 mile run @12:24 min/mile (12:40, 12:47, 12:14, 12:11, 12:10)
My original plan was to run 14 miles this day, but I was experiencing some tummy issues (I inhaled a Picky Bar before I left that morning without much digestion time. Usually I eat 60-90 minutes beforehand).
I was hoping to tough it out that morning (after all…everythings going to hurt at the end of 26.2, right?), but ended up going home after 5 miles. I did run through by this fountain next to the Botanical Gardens – I never knew it existed!
Run #2: 9 mile run @12:09 min/mile (13:02, 12:12, 11:30, 12:37, 12:00, 12:00, 12:00, 12:00, 12:00 <- last five miles on a TM) + Georgetown 5K @12:12 min/mile (11:44, 12:21, 12:53 <-ran/walk with Brittney yay).
Sunday was long run attempt #2! I had signed up to run the Georgetown 5K with Brittney, so I wanted to complete a majority of my miles before the race. I started off…2 miles in…I realized…..I forgot my waterbottle! I completed a 4 mile loop ending at my gym and ran 5 miles on the treadmill before heading to Georgetown. I finished with 12.1 miles and cooled down for 2 more miles. Afterwards I headed to the pool for my swim (see above).
Fun
On Thursday I met my friend Gerri (remember her from the Charleston Half Marathon….uhhhh eight months ago already?!) at 2 Amys Neaoplitan Pizzeria. This was my first time eating here (what?!?) and it did not disappoint. We shared two pizzas and had the most amazing honey ice cream.
Since we both share a love for pizza (as does Cliff so I am sure he will be included in some of these outings), we thought it would be fun to do a Tour de Pizza of DC (over time of course). Currently on the list: District of Pi, We the Pizza, Matchbox, Ghibellina, Mellow Mushroom, Pete’s New Haven Style APizza…any recs? I’ve been to some of the rezs listed, but not all.
What is your favorite style of pizza?
Have you ever forgotten fuel or water for a run?

August 20, 2015I’m having the hardest time finishing non-group long runs this summer. I don’t know if it’s the humidity, heat, or a bit of mental exhaustion. Nice miles this week! When is your tri? Have you ever done one before? I think the swim would be very tough for me.

August 26, 2015Agreed – it is tough! Sorry a little late to responding, your comment ended up in the spam filter for my commenting system (ugh). My tri was this past weekend. My first tri was 4 years ago…felt like a beginner again!

August 20, 2015I’ve never forgotten water, but I have forgotten fuel! And other things like my watch, iPod, etc., but thankfully not water.
Great training week!
