One week down and many weeks to go. The highlight of last week included swimming (yay) and the lowlight was missing some runs (boo). I am not to worried about it, I’ll be able to make it up this week. Today I am linking up with Tara at Running n’ Reading for the Weekend Update.
Monday 6/1– 2 mile walk + 35 minutes swimming
Tuesday 6/2 – 2 mile walk + 60 minutes personal training
Wednesday 6/3 – 2 mile walk + 4 miles running (steps included) @11:11 min/mile
Thursday 6/4 – 2 mile walk + 60 minutes personal training + 4 miles biking
Friday 6/5 – 2 mile walk + 35 minutes swimming
Saturday 6/6 – Rest day (missed run)
Sunday 6/7 – Rest day (missed makeup run)
Total: 14 miles
Swim
I went swimming twice last week (woo hoo sticking to my June goals)! On Monday and Friday I went to my gym and used their endless pool for 35 minutes each day. How did this work? I turned the blue knob and a water current was generated (it took a little bit of testing to find the right setting). Surprisingly, my body was not too tired or sore from the workout. I hope to make it to a traditional 25 meter/50 meter pool so I can swim some sets and time myself.

Bike
My sprint tri plan called for two x 45 minute bike workouts. I only managed to squeeze in one mini bike workout that came out to 4 miles (my actual race distance will be 10 miles). This is one area I do not want to neglect, because it is probably my weakest leg.
Run
My first running workout of the week fell on National Running Day. I ran 4 miles at 11:11 min/mile pace and negative split each mile – the last mile was 10:49 min/mile. I was feeling okay, so I think I could have pushed it a bit more.
I also ran these steps again! It took me 9 minutes exactly to complete this section, hopefully I’ll improve by the end of the month.
Unfortunately I missed my first track workout and long run of this training cycle – major UGH! On Saturday I planned on waking up at 6AM to get my 4-7 mile run in before heading to Maryland to borrow my mom’s car. I overslept and I had to go straight to my parents house… I thought…I’ll fit it on Sunday (after returning home from the reunion). Yeah…didn’t happen… I was wiped from our mini trip to Baltimore. Luckily this is the base building section (working up the mileage) so I am not going to stress about it as I have a pretty good base so far. I plan on making up my long run on Monday so next week’s total mileage should be higher than planned.
Fun
On Saturday we drove up to Baltimore for my 10 year college reunion. After a nice lunch in Fed Hill, we checked into the hotel and rested up before the night’s festivities.
It was nice to be back on campus – one of my favorite buildings on our quad (I hadn’t been back in 5 years – since our last reunion).
I took Cliff on a mini tour of the main campus, which took about 10 minutes since it was a small school! This is the building where I spent most of my time for classes and group work.
The best part was catching up with these ladies! I studied abroad with them my junior year in New Zealand and lived near them my sophomore and senior years. You may recognize them from my post here – I like to think we look similar. There were a couple of reunion activities on Friday night and Saturday morning, but my friends and I registered for the Saturday evening event which consisted of a welcome cocktail hour, class dinner, and dancing. While it was fun seeing old classmates, the execution and logistics of the event was a little disappointing (compared to our five year).
Our class dinner was held in Boulder (where we use to eat lunch). I know this is a bit of a first world problem, the food options were meh (buffet style and limited options), they used the tables that were in the space which made it difficult for large groups (in previous alumni events they usually rented large tables), and no decorations (which I could go without, but there weren’t even tablecloths). Compared to the five year reunion it was a bit of a let down, considering the price we paid (which was more).
They did redeem themselves (a little bit) with dessert and dancing (awesome cover band called the VIPS). Afterwards we went to an old bar near the college – a late night for me! We returned to the hotel around 1:30AM…no wonder I did not go running on Sunday! The next day we met one of my good friends from b-school for breakfast at Miss Shirleys. I had the chicken and waffles (white chocolate raspberry), probably the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had.
How was your weekend?
Have you gone to any high school or college reunions?
Christy
June 8, 2015Great job!! The first week of training is always exciting. I wouldn’t stress about missing any workouts at this point, it’s not like you missed a 20 miler! The endless pool looks fancy-fancy.
I missed my 10 year highschool reunion a couple of years ago, but thank goodness for Facebook and keeping up with friends there.

June 8, 2015Thank you, Christy! I know last year it would have stressed me out a lot. Facebook has been great for keeping up with friends – I went to my 10 year (b/c I had to plan it haha).

June 8, 2015I went to a 5-year high school reunion and skipped the 10 year. I wish college had reunions because I’d like that a lot more, I really did like my college classmates and miss them a lot! I’d rather keep up with people on Facebook honestly… then I have a few friends who don’t use it and that just makes it so hard to keep in touch with them (even though I 100% respect their decision not to use it).
It looks like you had a good week of training besides the missed weekend runs, but you had a lot of fun with your friends who you don’t get to see much so that’s worth missing runs for :).

June 9, 2015Facebook is great to keep in touch with people (especially the auxiliary friends). It has somewhat taken away the surprise factor out of reunions. I def keep in touch with more college friends vs. high school friends (I went to my 5/10). This week, I’ll be all over my runs 🙂

June 8, 2015You did a great job! So much cross training..very impressive 🙂 I really want to start swimming at my gym’s pool, but I’m so intimidated by the regulars that always go. I’ve never done laps and I’m not sure how I would do! One day I’ll suck it up and just do it. BTW- love all the pictures! So beautiful!

June 9, 2015Aww, thanks Gretchen! You can do it! Could you get a friend to go with you? At some of the pools I go to, they have signs that guide swimmers into which lanes that would work best for them.

June 8, 2015I loved seeing your pics over the weekend, Jenny; it looks like y’all had a blast! I know it’s easy to beat up on myself when I miss a scheduled training run; life happens, though, and you don’t want to miss something fun/important. You’ll be ready! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; hope your Monday is going well!

June 9, 2015It was fun – we got lucky with the weather as well. I’ve been going to the gym for a few years and it was my first time in the pool. It made for an interesting experience – probably good if you are practicing for an open water swim in the ocean.

June 8, 2015Reunions are always so much fun. I have never been to a college reunion but went to my 25th (aie!) HS reunion almost 2 years ago.
Didn’t know you went to school in Baltimore. My brother lives there… I haven’t been for quite a few years but need to get back.
You did a great job with your first week of training.

June 8, 2015Beautiful pictures of you from the weekend – your college campus looks so quaint … love, love, love the buildings you photographed! I went to a small college in southern Indiana (Hanover College – no, not in the NE!) and yours appears to have a very similar feel 🙂 I was on vacation last week and missed a couple training runs as well – luckily, like yours, they were short and you’ve got a great base mileage already. I would love to do a Sprint Tri one day, but am terrified of the swim leg – that pool you posted would be a fabulous way to train! Happy running (and biking and swimming!!)

June 8, 2015Glad you had fun even though the actual events were a bit of a let down. Isn’t it so weird to be back on campus?! Since thats where I got married we were there a bunch of times in 2012 and it made me feel SO old. I actually didnt go to our 5 year either…I went to the happy hour on that Friday but then just went out with some college friends downtown. Maybe because I live in Baltimore it doesn’t seem like such a big deal to go to those kinds of things…or I am just avoiding the realization that we have been out of college for 10 years..ha!

June 9, 2015Haha, it is weird! I’ve gone to a lacrosse game, but haven’t been to main campus since the five year. The area below McGuire Hall was different – new restaurants and no mailboxes, but everything looked the same. They actually built the bar area around the Statue of Mary on the quad…seemed kind of wrong!

June 8, 2015Good job on your awesome training week! 🙂 I’m sorry your reunion was just ok. Hopefully your 20th will make up for it! I am a youngster and haven’t had an opportunity to attend any reunions yet…my 10 year high school reunion will be next year and I’m not sure if the college I attended has five year unions, haha. Happy Monday!

The 10 year should be interesting… I had to plan mine…so obligated to attend. Have a good week
Jenn
June 8, 2015Looks like a fabulous weekend!
We just had my 20th high school reunion, but I didn’t attend. High school wasn’t my favorite time and I wasn’t interested in spending money on flights and hotel to spend time with people I didn’t really have relationships with 20 years ago. I don’t know if our college has reunions – it’s a big school, so I’m doubtful on that.

June 9, 2015Not many of my friends from high school have college reunions (they also went to larger schools). Seems its common amongst the small-mid sized schools. It would make sense not to attend high school reunions given the cost (and we keep in touch with people online). Luckily for me I am close to my hometown and college, so does help with those logistics. Have a great week!

June 9, 2015Thanks Kristina! It was a newish color for me…and matched my nails aha. The cut was very comfy…not sure what its called…I was a bit nervous it was too short b/c of the way it fell…but it passed the finger test. The pool is pretty nice (and warm) – there is another knob that creates a current from the side, not ready for that (since I will be doing a lake swim).

June 9, 2015I haven’t found one yet. There is a face with numbers (looks like a watch) that probably shows the pressure, but haven’t figured out how to read it yet (plus it takes time for it to reach the number). It would be neat if it was a digital indicator, or at least 1, 2, 3 markings on the knob. Would be great for prepping for an ocean swim.

June 9, 2015College graduation is so much fun! Although, the more I go to (just had my 15 year), the older I feel! Even though we are back on campus and all of those memories keep flooding back, it certainly is a reminder that you aren’t a college kid anymore.
