Friday Five – Favorite Summer Fruits & Recipes (to try)

May 22, 2015

Hello Memorial Day Weekend! I am looking forward to a three day staycation of relaxing, swimming, running, yoga, and catching up on the blog (including Monday’s comments).  Thank you to all of those who have served our country.

Today I am linking up with MarCourtney, and Cynthia and the theme is Favorite Summer Produce.  I thought it would be fun to share my Five Favorite Summer Fruits and Recipes (to try).

1. Watermelon

My favorite summer fruit! I love eating a cold bowl of watermelon after a hot run outside.  In addition to watermelon, I love my salsa…specifically pico de gallo (tomatoes + cilantro = heaven).  I would love to try this Watermelon Mango Pico de Gallo recipe by Damn Delicious

2. Blueberries

Muffins, salads, smoothies, yogurt….options are plentiful! This summer I am definitely going to make this Summer Corn and Blueberry Salad….minus the cucumber…not a fan of the cucumber/pickle fam.

Bonus: I also like freezing my blueberries so I can enjoy them later in the year.

3. Peaches

“Movin to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches” …..remember that song by the Presidents of the United States of America? As you all know, I have a sweet tooth.  I would to try a (Healthier) Brown Sugar Baked Peaches recipe by the Kitchen is my Playground.

4. Strawberries

Just like blueberries…strawberries are another one of those fruits that are great with everything! This Balsamic Strawberry Goat Cheese Crostini by Cooking for Keeps looks amazingggg.

5. Honeydew

Honeydew seems to be the stepsister to the popular Watermelon and Cantaloupe (I prefer honeydew over cantaloupe).  A couple of summers ago I purchased some popsicle molds…but have yet to use them!  I think for my first popsicle making attempt, I would like to try this Honeydew Mint Ice Pop recipe by Hungry Girl Por Vida.

What’s your favorite summer fruit?

Watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew…which do you prefer?

    1. Oh YES! I want to try all these recipes. Especially the honeydew pops and the watermelon Pico. We talked about watermelon salsa today on the blog. I wonder if that’s basically the same thing?

I love honeydew! Oooh can’t wait to read your blog post.

True…it is difficult to find the perfect honeydew – they tend to be super hard or super mushy! Great meeting you this weekend.

I bet! So many more fruit and veggie options for the summer.

My friend went to the strawberry patch weekend – the fruit looked so good!

    1. Jenny, this watermelon salsa stuff looks like the JAM! Wow! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! As soon as the “new” (from this season and really fresh) blueberries showed up at the grocery store (and on sale!), I bought a couple of pints and put them in the freezer; so great to have them later on! Hope you have a fantastic LONG weekend, Jenny!

So nice to have the plump blueberries back on the shelves! More smoothies and muffins in my future.

    1. i LOVE blackberries. i have literally just been eating little containers full for breakfast lately. but i’m also clinging to mangoes as long as i can; my ultimate favorite fruit.

Oooh I forgot about blackberries. Mangoes are so yummy, but I can never pick out good ones.

I never had watermelon juice- that sounds great. I’ll have to try putting some in the blender/straining it one day.

Mmmhmm I wish there was a better pic posted..but still looks good.

I agree! Best fruit/veggie season. Oooh and completely forgot about the avocados.

I agree! Perfect peaches are hard to find (the best ones I’ve had were from farmers market..but also difficult to find).

    1. All of those recipes look fantastic! I never thought to use watermelon in salsa but it sounds amazing. I love anything with cilantro 🙂

Out of the three fruits, I think I like cantaloupe the best but all are delicious and refreshing during the summer months!

Same! I hope it doesn’t become too watery…but I am sure it will still be good.
