2016 Race Schedule

March 9, 2016

This week is all about catching up, so I thought I would share my 2016 Race Schedule (housed and updated in the Upcoming Races tab).

Here are some noteworthy items:

  • Last year I participated in 34 races (Year in Review – 2015 Running by the Numbers), this year I plan on signing up for less races (18 so far).
  • Includes 2 sprint triathlons, 1 relay, and 1 marathon
  • 11 new to me races, including half marathons in Vermont + possibly Tennessee.
  • I may add a couple more races, including some as training runs in the July – September time-frame.
  • Undecided about Turkey Trot plans, but I have time to think about that πŸ™‚

January – March

  • March – St. Pats Double Leap (Washington, DC)
  • March – Gate River Run 15K (Jacksonville, FL)

April – June

July – September

October – December

*Races in italics not yet registered

Will I see you at any of the races this year?

Which race are you looking forward to the most this year?

I think I will have less and less over the next couple of years. Want to put some of the money into other funds (ex. home) πŸ™‚

Thanks, Chaitali! Yes, I signed up the day after when they had that special. Maybe they will have that Run Jenny Run sign up again πŸ˜‰

    1. i WISH i was seeing you at the berlin marathon. still so jealous. but my focus will definitely be on finishing chicago happy and healthy this year.

      1. Run Jenny Run

I WISH I could come to Chicago to cheer you on! I’ll be in NC marathon weekend. Perhaps one day we can run the same half (or full if you do more :P)

    1. Wow 34 races is a lot! Even 18 is still a lot (I think that’s my max). I’ll be at Richmond! πŸ™‚ Any must-dos in the DC area in May or later?! I’m thinking about the Nation’s Tri (olympic) in September.

I think next year I’m going to aim for less πŸ™‚ So many races to choose from. Here are the popular/older ones (some you probably are aware of) that are in DC (or just right outside)

        May – Capitol Hill 10K Classic http://www.capitolhillclassic.com/
September – Army Navy Half or 5M http://www.navyhalf.com/ (pretty much same course as CB)
        September – Nations Tri http://nationstri.com/
October – Army Ten Miler (lottery) http://www.armytenmiler.com/
October – Marine Corps Marathon or 10K marinemarathon.com
October – Woodrow Wilson Half http://wilsonbridgehalf.com/ (new course this year)
March – Rock and Roll DC http://www.runrocknroll.com/dc/
        March/April – Cherry Blossom http://www.cherryblossom.org/
        April – GW Parkway 10 Miler https://www.runpacers.com/race/parkway-classic/

Army Navy Half and Woodrow Wilson are fairly “new” in that they are less than 10 years old πŸ™‚

Pacers and Potomac River Running have tons of fun runs throughout the year (especially during the holidays Pacers has a Jingle Bell 5K in December along Pennsylvania Avenue). Pacers tend to host more in DC proper/Arlington and PRR in Virginia suburbs.

Nation’s Tri – I signed up for the spring b/c it was a steal, but probably won’t do it b/c its so close to Berlin. Hopefully it doesn’t storm, I know a couple years they had to cancel the swim portion.

        Baltimore/County ones another day!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Michelle! Looks like I won’t make it to Boston this year, but plotting for 2017 πŸ™‚

    1. Oh my goodness, I did not know you had already registered for Berlin. That is sooooo exciting. I will anxiously wait for your race recap for that one. You have such full race calendar. You have made me feel guilty that my race schedule is so sparse!

Yes and I’m so excited you have London coming up. Don’t feel guilty at all, you have been training and recovering from the fall/winter season. I wouldn’t be surprised you pick up more races as the year progresses πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

I didn’t realize until…the end! Luckily the J&A and Annapolis ones were from ambassadorships. Excited about Fit Foodie!

My mom and I registered separately and she was so proud of herself she got in! Yes come to DC!! Here are some popular DC ones in which you would find a bunch of us:

        May – Capitol Hill 10K Classic http://www.capitolhillclassic.com/
September – Army Navy Half or 5M http://www.navyhalf.com/ (pretty much same course as CB)
October – Army Ten Miler (lottery) http://www.armytenmiler.com/
October – Marine Corps Marathon or 10K marinemarathon.com
October – Woodrow Wilson Half http://wilsonbridgehalf.com/ (new course this year)
March – Rock and Roll DC http://www.runrocknroll.com/dc/
        March/April – Cherry Blossom http://www.cherryblossom.org/
        April – GW Parkway 10 Miler https://www.runpacers.com/race/parkway-classic/

But like Courtney said….Richmond is an option too πŸ™‚ Do you have any Pittsburgh ones you recommend in addition to the half?

PS – but don’t do ATM this year since Courtney will be in Chicago hehe πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

I will let you and Tara know once I register (looks like it). I have price alerts set for flights πŸ™‚

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Kelli! Haha I still have some catching up to do with race reports!

    1. Awesome schedule! That race in Woodstock, VT will be gorgeous and it is quite the little town. I highly recommend a stop at Ramunto’s Pizza. I’ve been there but haven’t run a race there before. I’m running a half in Vermont in April! I’ll also be at the Baltimore Women’s Classic and I’d like to to to do the MCM 10K.
I’m looking forward to every race this year after I move to Maryland, but I’m really excited for the Charles St. 12 and Rock N Roll Philly!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks for the recommendation! I haven’t done any research – I love my pizza. The BWC 5K is nice and right along the harbor and hopefully you get to run the MCM 10K! Sounds like you have a good line up with Charles Street 12 and RnR Philly!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Sharon! And I can’t wait to read more and more of your Cali races. You’ll have to let me know which ones πŸ™‚

    1. There is so much to love on this list! I really wanted to do covered bridges but we are going away for memorial day and it would be too much back to back travel. You should 100% run the St Jude half in Memphis!!!! I’m a Tennessean and have lots of friends that run it every year. It’s a very emotionally rewarding race. I would love to add it to my list but the time of year is always challenging for me. You should really consider it.

Ahh too bad, but very true. Sometimes I get burnt out back to back travel weekends. I am seriously considering St. Judes, one of my good friends runs it every year with her sister so she has pretty much convinced me to do that vs. Nashville (which I’m sure I will do one time in my lifetime)

      1. Run Jenny Run

It crept up! I know me too! Maybe 2017? I’ll send you my wish list for that year haha πŸ™‚

        1. Yes please do! Right now the only thing on my 2017 wish list is the London Marathon, but I might also want to focus on shorter distance races in 2017. Would love to see what you’re planning!

    1. Great schedule!!

      Debating about MCM10k….we will see.

      Wow Berlin….that is freaking awesome!!

I am doing my 1st Sprint tri in September in Deep Creek ….Savage 20.0

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks Tamika! Way to go on signing up for your first sprint tri. Savage 20.0 – impressive!

    1. Love your race schedule! I love how you have a mix of different distances in there! Maybe I’ll try and join you for a couple of the shorter ones — like the Fit Foodie 5k πŸ™‚ And I can’t believe you’re doing two sprint triathlons. That’s so awesome!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Thanks thanks! Let’s get together soon. You should def join in on one of them. Fit Foodie, there are some bloggers with a 10% discount code, so def use that if you sign up.

    1. Wow, you have signed up for so many awesome races!! I’m thinking about signing up for the Marine Corps 10K in the fall.

    1. Oh wow I totally missed the part where you decided to run Berlin Marathon this year! That’s AWESOME! I’ve always wanted to do Covered Bridges since I first started running, it sounds so pretty. I may see you at GW Parkway Classic – I’ll let you know if I sign up! I’m also hoping to do Baltimore Women’s Classic 5K but that’s as far out as I’ve thought about! Or at least, decided about – eek!

      1. Run Jenny Run

Yes definitely let me know if you sign up for GW. If you do Covered Bridges next year, make sure you are right at your computer when it opens – sold out in 8 minutes this year. Yeah, I haven’t registered for BWC yet, I had such a good time running it last year.
